With the release of Update 2 in Disney Dreamlight Valley, players have lots of new content to enjoy as they run a village filled with a growing roster of Disney characters. Aside from a new realm quest, players also have plenty of new recipes to make and items to craft.
Just like with the first update, players will notice that there are new resources like Onyx that can be obtained. The issue, however, is that Onyx doesn't describe where it can be found. This was also the case for Rich Soil when the Scar Update went live. Here is how players can obtain some Onyx.
Where to Find Onyx
When Disney Dreamlight Valley players look in their collection, they will notice that Onyx does not list where it can be found. In order to obtain Onyx, players simply have to go and mine from any rock that gems can spawn from. It doesn't matter what biome players choose to go to, they will be able to get Onyx.
The tricky part, however, is that the drop rate is pretty low. As a result, Disney Dreamlight Valley players will need to spend some time farming to get Onyx. While it only does so much to alleviate the low drop rate, players can bring a long a companion with the Mining Role to increase their chances of getting Onyx.
What is Onyx Used For
For Disney Dreamlight Valley players wondering what they can do with this brand-new resource, Onyx is used in crafting. Just like with how the Scar Update added the Miracle Growth Elixir, Update 2 added similar types of potions for the other Royal Tools. Onyx is one of the ingredients needed to make Miracle Pickaxe Polish.
In order to craft this potion, players will need to obtain 10 Vitalys Crystals, five Onyx, and 1,000 Dreamlight. There is a more expensive version of Miracle Pickaxe Polish that can be used more times than the regular potion, but that requires significantly more Onyx to craft.
Beyond that, Onyx can also be used to make Night Shards. One Onyx can be used to craft three Night Shards, which makes this an efficient method for farming Night Shards if there are no more holes for players to dig up. All players need to do is roam around the biomes and hit rocks with their trusty Pickaxe, and they will get several Onyx.
Can Onyx Be Sold?
Like with most resources in Disney Dreamlight Valley, players can sell Onyx at Goofy's or Kristoff's Stall if they wish. That said, since Onyx is a fairly rare resource it is a much better idea to not sell it and just keep any that is found while mining. Especially since it only sells for 300 Star Coins. Since the game is still in early access, it is always possible that future story quests will require Onyx.
