When it comes to coins, the main currency in Disney Dreamlight Valley, there are a lot of places that players can go to spend their hard-earned money. Unlike Moonstone and Dreamlight, which have limited uses, coins can be used to buy crops, clothing, and furniture. Players can use them to upgrade all of Goofy’s stalls as well as Remy’s restaurant and Scrooge’s shop, and they are required for upgrades to Moana’s boat and WALL-E’s garden. They are even needed to upgrade player homes, though they could be given one final purpose: upgrades for villager homes.

Most Disney Dreamlight Valley residents all have their own house, and each has a distinct personality that reflects the character who resides there. Whether it is a sea castle for Ariel or a boat for Donald Duck, players will instantly know who is living in each house. However, though these villager homes have cute exteriors and distinct interiors, there are ways that they could be made better - and an upgrade system could be the solution.

Potential House Upgrades For Disney Dreamlight Valley

Currently, the only two characters who share a home in Disney Dreamlight Valley are Anna and Kristoff, which is a bit odd considering that they are not the only couple in the game. Minnie and Mickey Mouse have separate homes, as do The Little Mermaid’s Ariel and Prince Eric. Giving players the option to upgrade one of the characters’ homes to be larger on the inside, just like Kristoff and Anna’s, could allow players to keep characters with close bonds together. Not only would this let friends like Donald and Goofy share a house, but players could establish new bonds between characters like WALL-E and Remy who do not normally associate with one another.

Letting players spend coins to upgrade houses and add an extra room could help limit Disney Dreamlight Valley’s looming character problem. As more characters get added, and more homes need to be placed, the valley could become cramped. If houses could be upgraded, though, players could fit two characters into a single house and delete the homes they do not like, freeing up more space in Dreamlight Valley.

House upgrades could be a fun way to add more activities to Disney Dreamlight Valley. Currently, the only way to hang out with characters is to do work like gardening, take some photos, and walk around the valley with them. However, if players upgrade a house, perhaps they could be given a fun little mini-game to enjoy with that character. Players could organize with WALL-E, do stress-reducing exercises with Donald, and make cave paintings with Maui. The mechanics of these mini-games could be simple, either taking the form of rhythm games or little drawing exercises.

Upgrading Disney Dreamlight Valley homes would be a way for Gameloft to add new quests as well. Though it seems likely that quests will end at level 10, it is not out of the realm of possibility that players can unlock new character items and help their residents on more adventures one day. If this happens, house upgrades could be the first step to level 11 quests and beyond, with players getting objectives that make use of the new rooms in the villagers’ homes.

Alongside upgrades for villager houses, it would be nice for Gameloft to give gamers a way to customize the look of their home. Though it is great to customize the interior of the house and add new rooms, players should not be stuck with a yellow house that has the exact same exterior as every other gamer's home. Similar to Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Tom Nook, players should be able to meet with Scrooge and ask him for changes to the outside of the house, with different styles and colors being selectable. With so many options when it comes to clothing and furniture, houses should be elevated to that level through future updates to the game.

Disney Dreamlight Valley is available now in early access for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
