Life simulator Disney Dreamlight Valley is filled to the brim with quests centered around helping the Valley's residents, restoring its biomes to their former glory, and fighting back the dark magic known as the Forgetting. One of the newest quests added is a cleverly hidden, multi-step adventure centered around finding various colorful potatoes and brewing them into potions. While the purpose of the potatoes and their potions has not yet been revealed, Disney Dreamlight Valley players have begun to speculate that they might be leading one classic Disney character's entrance into the Valley: Cinderella's Fairy Godmother

The quest began several months ago when an image shared via the game's social media accounts led to a code that, when redeemed, rewarded players with a Mysterious Golden Potato in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Over the next few months, several more potatoes -- Blue, Orange, and Red -- were added to the game. Each potato can be made into a potion once specific steps are followed. The use for these potions has not yet been revealed, but is speculated to tie to the game's larger story. The quest's focus on vegetable-based magic, Merlin's lack of knowledge about the potatoes, and a few hints found earlier in the game combine to point to the upcoming addition of Fairy Godmother.

Potato Magic Feels Like Fairy Godmother's Domain

Merlin, the wizard from The Sword in the Stone, is the primary expert on magic in Disney Dreamlight Valley. While other characters such as Elsa and Ursula possess magic powers of their own, Merlin is the first character players meet, and he is responsible for crafting a number of spells and magic items throughout the game's plot. However, even Merlin is not quite sure what is up with the magical potatoes and the potions they create. This has led many fans to believe that another magic user will be needed to unravel this mystery, and the Fairy Godmother seems like the perfect choice. Additionally, Disney crossover games like Kingdom Hearts have featured the Fairy Godmother and Merlin as allies who research and practice magic together.

The Fairy Godmother's magic also seems to be a natural fit for the "magical potato" storyline. While there are characters associated with food in the Valley already, most notably Remy the rat chef from Pixar's Ratatouille, combining vegetables and magic is generally the Fairy Godmother's domain. Famously, she transformed a pumpkin into a carriage for Cinderella to take to the ball. Plus, many of the potato quests in Disney Dreamlight Valley feature transforming objects into other objects -- turning everything from thorns to seashells to soup into magical potions -- and transformation is generally the Godmother's signature type of magic.

Fairy Godmother Already Has A Likely House In Dreamlight Valley

Another clue that indicates the Fairy Godmother might be arriving soon is the presence of an overgrown, thorn-covered pumpkin-shaped house in Disney Dreamlight Valley's Forgotten Lands biome. As previously mentioned, the Fairy Godmother is strongly associated with pumpkins because of the carriage she makes for Cinderella. As of Disney Dreamlight Valley's "Pride of the Valley" update, the Forgotten Lands remain the only Biome that has not been purged of the Forgetting's influence, which may explain why her suspected house still remains abandoned.

Disney Dreamlight Valley's content roadmap for 2023 recently revealed that its June update will be titled "The Remembering," and will progress the central Forgetting plot in a major way. This seems like the perfect time for the Fairy Godmother to make her appearance in the Valley and show players how to use the magical potatoes they have found and potions they have brewed. Perhaps the magic words that Disney Dreamlight Valley players will need to banish the Forgetting for good will be the Fairy Godmother's classic incantation - "bibbidi, bobbidi, boo!"

Disney Dreamlight Valley is currently available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
