How to Spend Time With a Magical Mentor in Dreamlight Valley

Hanging out with Merlin in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

One of the first duties unlocked in the Royal Winter Star Path tasks players to “spend time with a Magical Mentor.” While there are certainly many magical characters from whom the player could learn a lot, the task wants the player to spend time with a specific character. The "Magical Mentor" in Disney Dreamlight Valley is the wizard Merlin.

To spend time with the magical mentor, simply visit Merlin, speak with him, and select the “Let’s hang out!” option from the dialogue menu. This allows him to accompany the player in their adventures throughout the Valley and Eternity Isle. The player will accumulate time spent with Merlin towards completion of this duty while in either region.

Mining with a mining companion in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Players venturing into the Eternity Isle region, a new area introduced in the A Rift in Time expansion, might consider assigning Merlin a companion role that focuses on collecting certain types of materials from the expansion's new biomes. In the new Eternity Isle region, assigning Merlin the Mining role is particularly useful. This choice aids in acquiring rare minerals, crucial for completing quests in the area and crafting newly added furniture and decor.

Given Merlin's prominent role in many quests, players likely have a high, if not maximum, friendship level with him, increasing their chances of obtaining additional materials when Mining.

Once the player has spent 15 minutes with Merlin, they are free to set him on his merry way by speaking with him again and telling him goodbye. The player does not need to spend 15 consecutive minutes or be active in the game while accompanied, making this an easy task to complete with little effort in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
