How to Get a Fishing Rod in Dreamlight Valley
Unlike other games where players must craft their tools, there is a special fishing rod that they can get in Disney Dreamlight Valley. The fishing rod is one of four magical Royal Tools that belonged to the previous ruler of the valley. Players will get access to them early on during one of Merlin's first quests. The fishing rod becomes available after finding the pickaxe.
Players can then find Goofy's Lucky Fishing Rod in the Peaceful Meadow and trade it to him for the Royal Fishing Rod. After getting the Royal Fishing Rod, they can fish anytime in the valley's ponds, rivers, or ocean if Dazzle Beach has been unlocked. It's also possible to fish in the sand pools in Eternity Isle, for those who purchased the expansion.
How to Fish in Disney Dreamlight Valley
To fish in Disney Dreamlight Valley, approach a body of water while holding the fishing rod. Fish can be caught anywhere, but look for the colorful bubbling circles for better finds. Fishing in areas without the rings usually results in seaweed or super common fish. The colors signify how rare the catch will be, with white being common, blue being rare, and orange being rarest. When ready to fish, aim and throw the line into the middle of the circle. It will stop bubbling if players hit their mark.
The fishing rod will shake once there's a bite, and players must immediately start to reel the line. A circle will appear around the hook, and as it closes in, hit the correct input when it reaches the highlighted area around the hook. Repeat this process until the fish is caught. The rarer the fish, the more times players will have to complete the quick time sequence. Fishing uses up energy, so keep an eye on the energy bar to avoid exhaustion. If players miss the circle too many times, the fish will escape.
More fish species are found as players unlock the biomes in the valley. They can be used for special meals or sold at one of Goofy's stalls.
