How to Start The Sands in the Hourglass
The Sands in the Hourglass is a quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley that becomes accessible after completing The Flying Metal Nuisance and acquiring the Royal Hourglass. The player will consistently rely on this new tool during their adventures in the new Eternity Isle region.
Once in possession of the Royal Hourglass, the player must venture to the broken bridge located in The Courtyard, the northernmost area of Ancient’s Landing. Here, players must interact with the Hologram Station to speak with Jafar and learn their next steps and start the quest: The Sands in the Hourglass.
How to Complete the Quest The Sands in the Hourglass

Journey to The Secluded Beach

How to Use the Royal Hourglass’s Timebending Magic
The Timebending mechanic is a key feature in Dreamlight Valley’s A Rift of Time expansion and an integral part of the gameplay in Eternity Isle. The player activates Timebending through use of the Royal Hourglass, which the player can equip via the tool wheel or by pressing "7" on a keyboard.
With the Royal Hourglass equipped, the player can then activate its Timebending ability by pressing the spacebar or X on a controller. This causes the player to raise the Royal Hourglass, scanning the area for time anomalies.
Activating Timebending creates a sparkling arc above the character and around the Hourglass. This serves as a guide for locating anomalies, similar to a divination rod, involving a hot-and-cold minigame. There are two key aspects to observe when using Timebending:
- The direction of the arc, which indicates where the player should head to locate the treasure.
- The color of the arc, which indicates the player's distance from the hidden treasure.
When the player is furthest from a treasure, the arc will display as blue, then yellow, finally turning orange when the player has located the treasure. The player will begin to channel the Hourglass in this area, causing a prompt to appear, instructing the player to repeatedly press the A button, or E on a keyboard, until the treasure is recovered.
It's important to note that treasures can be temporarily exhausted in an area. In such cases, the Hourglass will inform the player that no additional treasure is present, suggesting a change of location. However, treasures do respawn over time.
Where to Find Ancient Statue Fragments & Ancient Plates
Jafar guides the player to use the Royal Hourglass's Timebending feature for locating necessary materials to repair the statue, beginning with the recovery of two Ancient Statue Fragments.
The Ancient Statue Fragments can be found by Timebending with the Royal Hourglass on the Secluded Beach. Search the area using Timebending until both fragments have been collected.
After collecting the two Statue Fragments, the next task involves finding three Ancient Plates. These are scattered across the Ancient’s Landing biome and require more exploration. The Plates can be found in specific locations:
- Near the stone gate leading from The Courtyard to The Docks.
- Inside the bench in front of the biome’s Wishing Well.
- On the beach behind EVE’S house, close to a pile of crates.
Return to Jafar on the Secluded Beach
After collecting the two Ancient Statue Fragments and three Ancient Plates, the player must go back to the Secluded Beach and consult Jafar through the Hologram Station. Jafar provides instructions on using the recently discovered Timebending Table and gives the player a recipe book. Craft the Statue Arm & Repair the Statue
The Timebending Table is a unique crafting station that allows players to use materials obtained from time anomalies on Eternity Isle. These materials are essential for crafting various items, such as furniture, decor, and notably, Ancient Machines. The Table also allows the player to upgrade the Royal Hourglass, strengthening its magical capabilities.
After using the Table to repair the statue, the first Jewel of Time is returned to the statue’s hands. The player must then return to the broken bridge in the northern part of The Courtyard in Ancient’s Landing.
Speak with Jafar at the Hologram Station
Near the bridge entrance, the player interacts with the Hologram Station to speak with Jafar. He explains how the Royal Hourglass can now be used to collect Mist, a resource akin to Dreamlight found in the Valley and on Eternity Isle.
