For most characters in Disney Dreamlight Valley, once they reach Level 2 players get to pick a companion role for them. Excluding characters like Ariel and Ursula who cannot have companion roles, these roles allow players to get bonus items when they bring along a character with a role. For example, having a companion with the fishing role will result in getting more fish.

But one thing that players have been asking for is the ability to change companion roles for characters, especially when there are roles that are more efficient for leveling up characters. Thankfully, Disney Dreamlight Valley players can now craft training manuals that can change roles. Here is how players can craft the Digging Training Manual.

Like other crafting recipes added in the latest update for Disney Dreamlight Valley, the training manuals are already listed when browsing the crafting menu. In order to craft the Digging Training Manual, players will need to gather 5,000 Dreamlight, 20 Pebbles, 20 Sand, and 30 Soil. As can be seen by the staggering amount of materials, the intent behind these costs is to prevent players from constantly switching roles for characters. It requires some planning ahead.

Dreamlight can be gathered from completing duties like selling vegetables, making food, clearing out Night Thorns, and other similar tasks. Pebbles can be found when digging in Dazzle Beach, Forest of Valor, Sunlit Plateau, and the Forgotten Lands. Pebbles have a higher drop rate in later biomes like Sunlit Plateau and the Forgotten Lands. Sand can be found by digging at Dazzle Beach, and it is occasionally sold by Kristoff once players have unlocked his stall. Soil can be found by digging in any biome. Once Disney Dreamlight Valley players have gathered all the materials needed, they can craft the Digging Training Manual at any crafting station.

How to Use the Digging Training Manual

The Digging Training Manual can only be used by giving it as a gift to the companion that Disney Dreamlight Valley players want to change the role of. One important limitation that players should be aware of is that training manuals like the Digging Training Manual can only be used if the intended companion is Level 10. If the character is not Level 10, players will not be able to use the manual to change the role for that character.

Once the manual has been given to that character, it will work immediately and players will be able to get bonus items when they bring that character along while digging. This results in getting more things like Clay, Sand, and Pebbles. In the future if players decide that they want their companion to have a different role, they will need to make another training manual that matches the role they want the companion to be changed to.

Disney Dreamlight Valley is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
