How Does Placing Items Outdoors Work

Placing decor outdoors in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

In addition to Disney Dreamlight Valley’s plethora of indoor furniture, the game also features outdoor décor items for embellishing the various biomes. Most outdoor furniture items, except certain large exterior structures like statues and lamp posts, can be placed indoors. Conversely, nearly all furniture can be placed outdoors, excluding any décor intended for display on the walls, ceiling light fixtures, and windows.

Players also have the flexibility to modify a biome's original foliage, including bushes, rocks, and trees. However, naturally occurring items that can be foraged, including flowers and herbs, cannot be removed in Furniture mode and must be collected manually.

Understanding Item Placement Limits

Explaining the item limit in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

To ensure optimal gaming performance, Disney Dreamlight Valley implements an item limit. This limit counts every object placed in the game, from outdoor décor to naturally occurring objects like rocks and buildings. Notably, paths and fencing don't count towards this limit. The Valley and Eternity Isle, for those with the A Rift in Time expansion, have separate, independently calculated item limits.

The item limit is displayed in the top right corner of the screen while in Furniture mode. It shows the number of unique items placed at the top and the total number of items placed below. The base limits are set at 600 Unique Items or 3000 Total Items. In-house furniture does not contribute to this limit, allowing the player to freely decorate as many rooms as they’d like without limitations.

For players on certain platforms, there is an option to increase these limits. By accessing the Help category in the Settings menu, players on PC, Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X can click a button to activate “Extra Item Limit,” raising the limits to 1200 Unique Items or 6000 Total Items. However, getting close to these limits may still impact performance on less powerful systems.

Increasing the outdoor item limit in Disney Dreamlight Valley is not possible on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One systems.

Disney Dreamlight Valley's flexible approach to personalization enables players to express their creativity vividly, both in their homes and across the game's outdoor environments. This feature allows for the creation of a unique world where players can live alongside their favorite Disney characters, crafting their ideal vision of a Disney-inspired landscape.
