Today’s Nintendo Direct Mini brought with it the announcement of Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny. While that’s good news for established fans of the tactical RPG series, newcomers might be a little less confident about jumping into it six mainline titles in. Luckily, Nintendo is giving Switch owners a pain-free way to try out the series, as it announced during the Direct that the previous main entry, Disgaea 5: Complete, will be free next week for the company’s latest Game Trial.

For those who haven’t heard, Game Trials is a program included as part of Nintendo Switch Online that puts select games on free trial periods. These are the full versions of these games, so subscribers can download a game and play as much as they want without any constraints, and once the trial ends they can pay to continue right where they left off. Nintendo kicked off the program last year with a free trial of Mario Tennis Aces, and soon it will be Disgaea 5’s turn.

Going into exact dates, Nintendo says that the Game Trial for Disgaea 5: Complete will start this Wednesday, September 23, and run until September 29. Six days might not be a lot of time to dive into a tactical RPG that also happens to be one of the Switch’s biggest time-killers, but that should still give interested Switch owners enough time to find out if the series has anything to offer them.

Should it manage to succeed there, there will be plenty more for them to dive into besides Disgaea 5. The Complete versions of Disgaea 1 and Disgaea 4 are also available on the console currently, and they’ll be joined by Disgaea 6 and the upcoming Switch ports of the Prinny spinoff series by next summer. Safe to say, newcomers will have options.

Disgaea 5: Complete is available for PC and Switch.
