Players in Dinkum will need materials and Dinks, the island currency, to expand their community and build different shops or city buildings. Some important materials can only be found by using the tools around the island. These materials include things like cement, tin, copper, iron ores, and shiny stones.

Dinkum challenges players in many ways, such as hunting, gathering materials, farming, and mining. It leaves lots to be discovered from the very beginning, and a unique aspect is shiny stones. Shiny stones are mysterious items that are pretty useful to players once opened.

How to Get Shiny Stones

Dinkum Mining Shiny Stones

Players will need the Shop Deed, a Mining License, and a pickaxe or hammer to get ahold of shiny stones. To get the Shop Deed, speak with Fletch in the Base Tent. Fletch is in charge of all renovations and licenses in Dinkum. Purchasing the Shop Deed becomes available after building up a relationship with John. However, John will not sell any mining tools without a Mining License. Players can exchange Permit Points, AKA tickets earned through completing tasks around the island, for all the licenses.

With the Mining License, purchase a pickaxe or hammer. Shiny stones are found randomly in rocks, so getting them requires a bit of patience and good fortune. Players can find them in the actual Mines as well, but an entrance to the mines requires a Deep Mining License. Luckily, rocks are found all over the island, and the desert area has the largest amount of rocks. To get the sparkling stones, start by hitting rocks with a pickaxe or hammer, and once they crack, shiny stones may appear. Plan to have something to eat so that when stamina gets low, it can be replenished, and players can keep cracking away.

How to Open Shiny Stones

Dinkum Stone Grinder

After getting a few shiny stones, the description hints that they may have something valuable inside once opened. Players can not open them with any of the hand tools available; instead, they will need to purchase a Stone Grinder from John. It costs 10,000 Dinks. One way to get that amount is by selling any of the tin or copper ores found while mining for shiny stones, and if players have a furnace, turning the ores into bars will make them sell more.

Place the Stone Grinder somewhere on the island. To open the stones, insert them into the grinder by right-clicking and waiting a few moments. Shiny stones contain things like tin, copper, or iron ores and, on rare occasions, will give opals, which sell for a very high profit.

Dinkum is available now for PC.
