Diablo Immortal has come a long way since its first announcement all the way back in 2018. Upon announcing that its next title in the beloved Diablo series would be a mobile-only game, Blizzard was made a laughing stock of the wider gaming community, with one infamous Q&A attendee asking if it was a late April Fool's joke. In response, Blizzard announced that Diablo Immortal would also be coming to PC. Over the last few years since its announcement, Diablo Immortal has found its way into select players' hands via a series of alphas and betas, and now, finally, the game has received a worldwide release. To the surprise of some, it's actually pretty good.

Some heinous microtransaction nonsense aside, Diablo Immortal is being reviewed fairly well by both fans and critics, where the game's visuals and mechanics have been praised along with its intuitive touch controls. With these positive reviews, the game being free-to-play, and its presence on both mobile and PC platforms, Diablo Immortal is becoming quite popular, which means that more fans than ever are venturing to the world of Sanctuary. But before players can set out on their adventure, they'll have to start their journey in the fishing village of Wortham, Diablo Immortal's starting location and a town threatened by undead monsters.

The Lore of Diablo Immortal's Wortham

Located just west of New Tristram, in the kingdom of Khanduras, Wortham used to be a bustling fishing town. Most of Wortham's residents were fishermen, who spent their days trawling the waters surrounding the town, while some others were ferrymen who made a living transporting folk between Wortham and New Tristram via the Traders' Road.

The residents of Wortham were far from rich, but most were content with what they had, knowing full well that it could be much worse. In 1270, Wortham was attacked by a group of cultists. In the fight, some buildings were ransacked, and some residents were kidnaped, later being transformed into undead creatures by the cultists. With the town threatened by these creatures, Wortham's mayor sent out a distress call, but before any aid could arrive, the mayor was killed.

About 15 years later, Wortham was once again the target of a cultist attack, though this time the damage would be much greater. Lead by Maghda, the cult set the town on fire, believing that a shard of El'druin was being kept there. Once the shard was found, the cultists left, just as the Nephalem heroes arrived to help.

With Diablo Immortal being set between Diablo 2 and 3, Wortham has not yet been burned down by cultists. By the time the player arrives in Wortham, the town is being threatened by undead beings, which the player first encounters in the corrupted forest just outside the town's gates. Together with the help of the Wortham guard, the player works their way through the town, clearing it of any otherworldly threats and helping the citizens where possible.

In Diablo 3, the player and their allies take on the role of the Nephalem heroes, who upon starting the game, find themselves once again outside of Wortham's gates during the first act of the game. With the town ablaze, the player and their adventurer crew needs to repel the Coven forces and set about rebuilding the town.

Diablo Immortal is available now on Android and iOS devices, with a Windows beta also underway.
