For those waiting for the eventual arrival of Diablo 4, Blizzard is helping to scratch that itch with its mobile title Diablo Immortal. Although the game experienced plenty of controversy during its announcement at BlizzCon 2018, the game has seemingly stuck a chord with many, offering the familiar loot based gameplay on a smaller scale. Players can pick from six different classes and earn XP and loot through defeating monsters.

However, this mobile version of the popular Diablo franchise does introduce a few new mechanics and features. Naturally, a mobile-first title means it was designed with touchscreen and virtual controls in mind. For players on the go, skills feature auto-aim by default, mana has been removed in favor of a cooldown system, and characters like the Barbarian have an ultimate ability they can utilize to decimate enemies.

In addition to gameplay changes, Diablo Immortal has some new features players can utilize like the PvP-centric mode Cycle of Strife and the boss mode known as the Helliquary. For those who enjoy buildcrafting and optimizing gear, there's also the Essence Transfer mechanic, which can both extract and infuse unique properties.

What is Essence Transfer?

Inside of Diablo Immortal, players can use the gear-related mechanic known as Essence Transfer to take a legendary perk from one piece of gear and infuse it into a different one. This is great for those who find a legendary item with a great perk, but may not be quite as good as the item being used. This way, the player can utilize the perk while making themselves stronger.

It's worth noting that when an item goes through the extraction process, the item or gem is automatically lost after the process finishes. However, the materials are salvaged, so the player doesn't miss out on getting resources from the lost item.

How to Essence Transfer

To get started, players will need to visit the NPC Zamina in the hub zone of Westmarch, where she can be found in Rakkis Plaza, northwest from The Wolf Gate. Players reach this region after saving Wortham and wrapping up the starting and beginner content of the main campaign. Upon speaking to her, players will be able to select from Extract or Inherit.

The first step is to extract a Legendary perk from a piece of gear, also resulting in potential extra gems and materials from the destroyed item. Players will also need 3,000 Gold in order to use the extraction process as well, so this process can get quite expensive if used often.

With the perk extracted, players can now select Inherit to choose the equipment to inherit the new perk. For those who have extracted multiple attributes, they'll be able to select which perk to add during this phase as well. Thankfully, this process is completely free and selecting Inherit will show the item before and what it will become after. Typically, the item's name, appearance, and attributes will change after the Inherit process finishes.

Diablo Immortal is available now on iOS, Android, and PC.
