Diablo Immortal features several difficultly levels, though the way to change between them may not be immediately obvious. In fact, players must fulfill a prerequisite before they can change the difficulty in Diablo Immortal, and that may lead to some amount of confusion. This guide is here to provide details on that prerequisite and explain how to adjust this game's difficulty level once it has been met.

Diablo Immortal: How to Change Difficulty

The first step toward changing difficulty is to reach Level 60, the game's level cap. Indeed, players must push through all these standard levels on Normal, which does set the title apart from Diablo 3. The inability to adjust difficulty prior to that point means that fans may feel somewhat overpowered at certain points in the campaign, particularly if they opt to improve their characters by engaging with Diablo Immortal's microtransactions.

Upon reaching Level 60, players can change difficulty any time that they are in Westmarch. To do this, fans should open the area's map and direct their attention to the skull in the top-right corner. Clicking on the arrow icon next to that skull will take players to a menu where they can select between four different Hell difficulty levels, and they should make their selection based on their current Paragon level in Diablo Immortal.

For the uninitiated, Paragon levels provide opportunities for character progression beyond the Level 60 cap. Indeed, Diablo Immortal characters will continue to gain XP after hitting maximum level, and they will earn one Paragon point every time that they would level up further. These points can then be spent in the various Paragon trees, which unlock at different Paragon levels and provide bonuses and new skills.

With respect to how Paragon levels are connected to difficulty levels, the gear pieces that drop in Hell levels are within a designated range of Paragon levels. Here is a breakdown of exactly how that works out, and it can be seen in the difficulty selection menu that Level 60 players can access from Westmarch:

  • Hell 1: Paragon Level 1-60
  • Hell 2: Paragon Level 30-130
  • Hell 3: Paragon Level 90-210
  • Hell 4: Paragon Level 160-300

As players are sure to notice, Paragon levels do have some amount of overlap across Hell levels. Diablo fans will thus need to decide exactly when they want to push to the next level of difficulty, as there is no clean breakpoint between them. That said, players should at least plan to move up once they exceed the upper bounds of a Hell level's range of Paragon levels.
