The Necromancer is Diablo Immortal's most enigmatic class. While every class has some room for variety, no Barbarian is going to become a ranged powerhouse and no Wizard is going to be a melee physical damage-dealer. The Necromancer can do either of these or become a summoner, supporter, or any other role.

It is for this reason that Necromancers are deeply divided over what pieces of legendary gear to equip. Some players will find a piece that could not be better and others will argue that the piece is worthless. Although Diablo Immortal players might not have a consensus "best" piece of gear, all the ones on this list should at least get the respect from the veterans.

8 Coals For Eyes - PvP - Head

  • Command Skeletons now causes your skeletal champions to explode at their destination, damaging all nearby enemies.

Command Skeletons has its usefulness take a dive in PvP. Though they can act as annoyances, quick players will get out of their way before they can strike. And the strikes, while substantial in PvE for killing foes or clearing out cobwebs, are rather tiny against human opponents.

But those with Coals For Eyes won't have to worry about this small attack damage. The skeletons will explode upon reaching their destination, damaging any enemies caught in the blast before they can run away.

7 Visitant's Sign - PvE - Head

  • Command Golem duration increased by 20%.

Command Golem is a huge part of the PvE summoner build, locking minions into a virtual perma-stun, damaging them, and protecting the Necromancer from taking damage. No wonder this is the easiest class to play for beginners.

The only complaint is the several seconds that it is down for after it despawns. Throw on the Visitant's Sign and suddenly that problem disappears. The characters can have the golem up as soon as it despawns, giving the Necromancer a permanent companion.

6 Gravedirt's Weight - PvP - Shoulders

  • Bone Armor now also grants immunity to all effects which knock you out of your position.

The cheaters in PvP are well aware that knocking players out of position is a big part of the combat. Hitting somebody into dangerous territory is a common tactic. The Necromancer only has one movement skill to try and escape while other classes are looking at two or three at least.

Thankfully, the Gravedirt's Weight gives Bone Armor the power to prevent the Necromancer from being forcibly moved. That's even better than a mobility skill, allowing the character to focus on damage and protection since positioning will be just fine.

5 Rotspur - PvE - Shoulders

  • Corpse Explosion no longer detonates corpses, causing them instead to release blight on the area that poisons enemies for continual damage.

Corpse Explosion is still a fun skill, but nowhere near as effective as previous iterations. The reduction of damage from each consecutive explosion puts a hard cap on this skill's usefulness. When Auto-Navigating to a specific point, it's not reasonable to stack up a meaningful quantity of corpses.

Then come the Rotspur shoulders to save the day. Instead of destroying the corpses, they release a gaseous toxin, damaging enemies over time for much more than the damage they'd take from the simple explosions.

4 The Inviting Tomb - PvP - Chest

  • Bone Wall now creates a circular wall of bones that traps targets within it, but no longer has multiple charges.

Anybody doubting the Necromancer's usefulness in PvP hasn't been paired with one that uses The Inviting Tomb chest piece. Gamers are hoping that as Activision-Blizzard fixes the numerous issues in the game, they leave this overpowered item nerf-free.

Catching an enemy in a complete circle? One where allied projectiles can get in but enemy projectiles cannot? That's instant death to many classes, even tanks.

3 Covet Nothing - PvE - Chest

  • Bone Armor now also damages nearby enemies when activated and increases their damage taken for a short time.

With a legion to command in PvE, players might not find any usefulness in Bone Armor. They'll focus on dodging attacks and avoiding damage entirely, worrying more about total output than defense. But if that defense turns to offense, that sweetens the deal in no small way.

Covet Nothing will damage nearby enemies and increase the damage that they take for a while. Aside from helping the character level up faster, this is most effective against bosses, exposing them to extra damage at vital moments.

2 Proximal Fear - PvP - Legs

  • Wraith Form now causes enemies you touch to flee in Fear and damages them.

When measuring each class, the Necromancer sometimes suffers from its mobility. Wraith Form is their sole means of extra movement and it, frankly, pales when compared to the mobility skills of other classes. Maybe that's because the designers knew that Proximal Fear would make up the difference and then some.

Damaging enemies already makes this better than most classic "escape" mechanisms, but it's the versatility added that really shines. It can be used offensively or defensively as a disable that forces enemies to mindlessly run. This ruins the pursuit of attackers and can force an enemy into a position they'd never want to be in.

1 Guided By Maggots - PvE - Legs

Diablo Immortal Homing Attacks From the Soulfire Ultimate
  • Dark Curse no longer decreases enemy vision, instead causing your minions within the area to frenzy, increasing their attack and movement speeds.

Decreasing enemy vision is rather useless in PvE since the Necromancer will often play further back and will have allied thralls doing the majority of the melee attacking anyhow. Sacrificing it to boost the damage of these minions is an easy choice.

The frenzy is core to most builds, especially for summoners. Guided by Maggots is, as a result, probably the hottest item in the game for max-level Necromancers right now, being heavily sought by players on every realm.

Diablo Immortal is available now for mobile and PC.
