Diablo 4 just disabled a particularly troublesome sidequest after it experienced a potentially game-ending glitch. Until the quest line is fixed and re-implemented into Diablo 4, players will be unable to reach 100% completion on the Scosglen zone.

The early access period for Diablo 4 is underway, unleashing the first waves of players upon Sanctuary and the minions of Hell. Though the pre-launch has been painless for the most part outside some Diablo 4 server connectivity issues, some players have experienced a few bugs and glitches.

Among these, the Stolen Artifice sidequest from the Scosglen zone in Diablo 4 was one of the most egregious. The quest is a straightforward mission to track down a bandit named Darcel and retrieve a stolen item. However, a glitch causes up to a dozen copies of Darcel to spawn. As an elite enemy with a fast attack speed, this could spell doom for most players. Until Blizzard can fix this bug, it has temporarily disabled the sidequest.

This has the unfortunate side effect of making it impossible to fully complete the Scosglen area. Diablo 4 players interested in finding every secret in Scosglen and earning the maximum Renown and rewards from every aspect of the game should not fret, however, as Blizzard is clearly aware of the issue. It is working to fix the glitch as quickly as it can. While it could not give a time estimate, players can expect a problem of this caliber to be resolved relatively soon.

Annoying as it may be to some players, disabling this quest was the right call. Few fans enjoy dying due to glitches–and none more than Hardcore Diablo 4 players, many of which are participating in the Hardcore Victories Contest race to level 100. Being unable to complete the Scosglen zone is a temporary frustration, but losing hours of gameplay to an avoidable bug is worse.

Diablo 4 fans still have a couple more days to jump into Sanctuary early before the game’s official launch. Players can purchase the Deluxe or Ultimate Editions of Diablo 4, or upgrade their Standard Edition, to unlock bonus content, including early access. Starting June 5 at 4 PM PST, Diablo 4 will open the gates of Sanctuary to all players, regardless of what version they have. Hopefully, Blizzard will be able to iron out the few glitches, bugs, and connectivity issues it has experienced during early access to ensure its full launch is a smooth and seamless experience.

Diablo 4 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
