An excerpt from a new Diablo 4 lore book just revealed what happened to the corpses of Diablo and the other Prime Evils after their deaths. These juicy lore tidbits could be a clue as to what players may have to deal with in Diablo 4.

The Book of Lorath is a new lore codex releasing alongside Diablo 4 on June 6. Penned by Lorath Nahr, one of the last Horadrim encountered early in Diablo 4, the book acts as a journal illuminating the dark corners of Sanctuary.

One of the pages available for preview on the Book of Lorath Amazon listing goes into detail about various demonic relics collected by the Horadrim. Apparently, the Prime Evils left behind parts of their corpses after their deaths in Diablo 2, which are now in the custody of the Horadric scholars. Though the material forms of the Prime Evils died many in-universe years ago, the Brain of Mephisto, Eye of Baal, and Horn of Diablo still hold a vestige of their powers.

According to the excerpt, the Brain of Mephisto holds the mind-twisting manipulations of the Lord of Hatred, the Eye of Baal contains the violent vision the Lord of Destruction had for Sanctuary, and the Horn of Diablo invokes the terror of a slow, agonizing death. Nahr’s text confirms these relics have been used by the Horadrim of Diablo in the past, and muses on whether their power comes from the Prime Evils, lingering will from their original human hosts, or a combination of both.

Either way, this excerpt presents an interesting possible plot point in Diablo 4. While their presence in the Book of Lorath does not mean these demonic relics will show up in Diablo 4, it would make sense if they did. Considering Diablo 4's main antagonist Lilith is Mephisto’s daughter, it is possible she could seek out his brain or the remains of the other Prime Evils to enact her schemes. Alternatively, Inarius may seek out the Eye of Baal or Horn of Diablo in hopes to turn the artifacts on Lilith to destroy her once and for all.

Diablo 4 fans won’t have to wait long to find out. With record-breaking attendance to the Diablo 4 open beta, fans of the grimdark series have proven they are eager to see the battle between Lilith and Inarius reach its conclusion. Players will have to see if the demonic relics of the Prime Evils, or any other lore from the Book of Lorath, appear in Diablo 4 when it releases.

Diablo 4 is out June 6 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
