During Diablo 4’s “Server Slam” beta test, PC players using AMD CPUs are experiencing issues with frame stuttering. This is the third beta test for Diablo 4, and this is the first time these technical issues have arisen.

The development of Diablo4 has been bogged down with unfortunate updates ever since the title’s announcement at BlizzCon 2019. From bugs, delays, and fears of a lackluster experience from the fans, Blizzard’s biggest title of the year has a lot to live up to. However, recent betas of the game have been well received, and Diablo 4's new features have been positively praised by many.

Unfortunately, the newest edition to the Diablo franchise is experiencing another setback, as PC players with AMD CPUs are experiencing stuttering issues. The game has been tested by John Papadopoulos at DSOGaming with an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D with 32GB of DDR5 at 6000Mhz and an RTX 4090. Even with a rig as powerful as that, the game has stuttering problems, despite the fact that the Diablo 4 launch requirements have been reached.

The stuttering problems occur the most when DLSS3 is enabled, and the game’s map is opened. These frame stutters are even more noticeable when there's heavy rain or heavy snow on the screen. When performing optimally, Diablo 4 runs at 180 frames per second in 4K at Max Settings. This includes DLAA, and DLSS3 Frame Generation enabled.

The entire reason for running a public beta is to find and remove bugs such as this, but it’s difficult for many fans to overlook past PC disasters such as the legendary bugs and glitches in Cyberpunk 2077 and the next-gen patch for The Witcher 3. Even more daunting for gamers is the recent rash of PC ports that are almost unplayable on release day, such as The Last of Us Part 1 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Some may be worried that Diablo 4 will run into similar issues, though hopefully things are smooth sailing come launch.

The most important legacy that Blizzard has to consider is that of the Diablo franchise itself. Even the most hardcore fan of the Diablo series would agree that the franchise has had its ups and downs, with the biggest disappointment being the mobile game installment, Diablo Immortal. Hopefully Diablo 4 is able to avoid the same mistakes Diablo Immortal made and deliver an experience that lives up to the franchise's impressive legacy.

Diablo 4 will be available June 6 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series XIS
