As the first live-service title in the series, it was essentially a foregone conclusion that Diablo 4 would feature a Battle Pass and seasons as part of its continuing content model. The game has yet to hit full release yet but already millions of players are enjoying the world of Sanctuary during the early release window. With many players now clearing the campaign or even hitting level 100 and becoming fully entrenched in the endgame, there's already a demand for more Diablo 4 content. Thankfully, Blizzard has already given players some specifics regarding what to expect from the game's first Battle Pass.

One of the biggest questions players have regarding the Battle Pass is when it's expected to release, with no discernible date given from the developer other than "mid to late July". What is known is that the Battle Pass will drop alongside the game's first season and will include plenty of content for both new and returning players to dig into upon its arrival. One important thing to note is that players will need to have completed the main campaign of Diablo 4 prior to being able to engage in any Battle Pass content, so the delay in release gives players plenty of time to clear the main game without needing to worry about future content drops.

What's Included in the Diablo 4 Battle Pass

Diablo 4 First Season Battle Pass Cosmetics Progression

Based on pre-release footage shared by Blizzard, players can expect a total of 90 reward tiers in the Diablo 4 Battle Pass, and 63 of them can only be accessed through purchasing one of the paid Battle Pass options. In terms of what players will be expected to pay for access to the Battle Pass, there are a total of three different options -- one free and two paid. One important caveat that potentially could offset the cost of the two premium Battle Pass options is that they include rewards of Diablo 4's in-game currency Platinum which can be used toward future Battle Pass purchases.

For players who have been playing Diablo 4 since June 1 in the early access period, there's good news in that the first Premium Battle Pass was included in the cost of the game. While the free Battle Pass tier has access to 27 of the total 90 rewards, all the potential rewards are accessible to players with the Premium or Accelerated Battle Passes and those who choose to purchase the Accelerated tier will have 20 rewards immediately available to claim after purchasing. Regardless of which tier players choose, rewards consist of cosmetics and the seasonal currency Smoldering Ashes.

There will also be a special seasonal cosmetic only available to the Accelerated tier that will refresh each season. As is to be expected, some of the most sought-after cosmetics will be placed behind the paywall for the paid Diablo 4 Battle Pass levels. In terms of what types of items players can expect as rewards outside weapon and armor skins, there will be character customization options, Platinum currency for use in-game, new emotes, and the Smoldering Ashes seasonal currency.

The seasonal currency can be used to purchase "season blessings" which grant players passive buffs for their characters that increase earning rates for gold, EXP, and Obols. These buffs will be important for players hoping to take on Diablo 4's Nightmare Dungeons or purchase items from the Purveyor of Curiosities in hopes of getting a desirable Legendary drop. For anyone looking to get the most of Diablo 4's endgame content, the Battle Pass looks to be a worthwhile expenditure toward character progress.

Diablo 4 is available now in early access, with its full launch coming June 6 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
