The Viper Temple in Diablo 2: Resurrected is one of three locations players must visit to collect items in order to assemble The Horadric Staff. Unfortunately, the ARPG has a tendency to give players quests with barely any information displayed in their Quest Log.

The Horadric Staff and Tainted Sun quests both ask players to go to the Claw Viper Temple in Diablo 2: Resurrected, but they don't tell them how to get there. This guide will go over the exact path players need to take, and what to do with the amulet when they find it.

Updated on December 23rd, 2021 by Hodey Johns: Randomly generated locations and a lack of map markers are part of the charm of Diablo 2: Resurrected. It encourages players to follow where their hearts tell them to go, not where they feel they need to go. Some players will love this sense of unrushed discovery. Others, on the other hand, will just be trying to beat the game and such a concept will make it almost impossible for them to do quickly. Some plan on exploring but what to get the plot done first. For these players, this guide has been updated with tips that will guide them regardless of how far into the act they are or how many waypoints they've unlocked.

From The Beginning

Diablo 2 Resurrected Standing On A Waypoint In Act 2

If players have not located the Lost City yet, they can find The Claw Viper Temple in Diablo 2 by following this path:

  • Rocky Waste > Dry Hills > Far Oasis > Lost City > Valley of Snakes > Claw Viper Temple

Rocky Waste is the large area outside the town in Act 2. Dry Hills, Far Oasis, and Lost City all have waypoints that players should find before moving on to the next location. Waypoints make returning to an area easier if a death occurs, or coming back to find the best farming spots in Diablo 2 Resurrected as quick and painless as possible.

From The Lost City

Diablo 2 Resurrected Looking At The Tainted Sun Quest Description

As the maps are procedurally generated in Diablo 2, the exact positioning of the Claw Viper Temple cannot be predicted. However, it will always be in the Valley of Snakes area, which can be found by following the same path every play session.

If players have unlocked the Lost City waypoint, they can travel to it from town, and then search for the randomly generated path to the Valley of Snakes. Once in the valley, search for the Claw Viper Temple, which has statues of snake-like monsters by the entrance. All this searching can be a little annoying, which is why a better map is one of the biggest fixes Diablo 2: Resurrected needs.

Finishing The Quest

Diablo 2 Resurrected Viper Claw Temple Level Two Multiple Player Take Down Boss

When the Claw Viper Temple has been located, players must do two things: destroy the Serpent Altar and find the Horadric Amulet. Destroying the altar will drop the amulet for all players in the party. The altar is found on Level 2 of the Claw Viper Temple and is protected by Fangskin.

Kill the enemy, destroy the altar, pick up the amulet, and then head back to town to assemble the Horadric Staff. Or, store the amulet in the Stash until the staff has been found. Once all three pieces have been located, put the amulet and shaft in the Horadric Cube and press transmute. This is one of many useful Horadric Cube recipes to remember. Players can now take it to Tal Rasha's Tomb in Diablo 2: Resurrected to finish Act 2.

Diablo 2: Resurrected was released on September 23rd, 2021, and is available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
