Diablo 2 first launched in 2000, followed up by expansions and a lot of patches. The game remained incredibly popular, even after Diablo 3 launched. It is one of the quintessential PC RPGs and Blizzard seemingly nailed it with Diablo 2’s release. That’s why the announcement of Diablo 2: Resurrected was such a big deal. The game's remaster is getting a lot of great feedback in reviews, despite the company being in hot water.

As good as Resurrected is, it didn’t change a lot. The core game remains intact with only a few tweaks here and there, aside from the obvious facelift to the graphics. Still, there are some extra features and improvements Blizzard could implement in future patches in order to make Diablo 2: Resurrected a better and more modern experience.

8 More Inventory Fixes

Diablo 2: Resurrected did fix the sharing options in the player’s storage, but that’s the only big tweak they made. There are still many features that could make the game better if the inventory was further improved.

For example, it would be nice if items like could get stacked. That alone would help a lot in terms of decluttering the inventory. It would also be helpful to have a good way to send gear back to base, instead of using portals every five minutes; for example, mercenaries could become pack mules. There are too many suggestions to name.

7 Add Local Co-Op

Diablo 2: Resurrected did a nice job of bringing the series to consoles in a big way. Part of the reason it was so successful, besides the tight control mapping, was the local co-op. It’s a classic to this day on any platform gamers pick it up on from the PS4 to the Switch.

Diablo 2: Resurrected unfortunately does not have local co-op. On the plus side, the multiplayer can still be fun on consoles via online connections. There isn’t cross-play between all platforms yet, which is also a bummer, but at least there is some kind of multiplayer on consoles to keep players satisfied for now.

6 Gender Choices For Classes

A lot of RPGs with classes and character creators tend to allow players to choose their gender; for example, in Dark Souls. On the other hand, every class's gender is set in Diablo 2: Resurrected which is unfortunate. It’s not a huge dealbreaker as every class is fun to play and well thought out. Still, tt is a bit odd that in 2021 there is no choice.

Maybe gamers want to play as a male Sorcerer, or a female Paladin. The class characters aren’t really implemented in the story, which makes these exclusions even stranger. An update to fix this issue would be nice to provide players greater roleplaying freedom.

5 A Better Map

The map in this game is borderline unreadable. There are three choices players can have in Diablo 2: Resurrected. They can target the map in the upper right, upper left, or center of the screen. The center option blows it up and overlays it on top of characters which can be distracting while trying to play.

Because there is no map to look at properly in the menu, it can be difficult to find certain objectives. Players spend a lot of time running around instead since things aren’t better highlighted. Hopefully, it won’t be too hard to add in a map option in the menu.

4 Increases Character Speed

Another part of exploring that can be slow is the character speed itself. There is a run button that uses stamina, but it’s not that much of a boost. There are skills to grant faster speeds like in the Assassin’s tree, which does help. However, the core speed of characters should still be a little faster.

On the plus side, the areas are never that huge so getting around takes a frustratingly long time. The portal option also helps with fast travel. It’s a small gripe with Diablo 2: Resurrected, but it is still worth mentioning among aspects that could be improved.

3 Take Out Forced Logins

Diablo 2: Resurrected is digital only right now. It’s a bit odd that it didn’t get a physical release, especially considering that Diablo 3 did. One of the reasons might be because Blizzard requires players to make a Battlenet account. This is for the setup process only.

The strange thing is that the game can be played offline after this. It would make sense if Blizzard asked players to make an account if they tried to play online. However, it doesn’t really make sense the way it is now, and it would be great to see this forced login process removed in an update. On the plus side of the online support, it is nice that players get access to an import option for old characters.

2 Allow Players To Pause In The Menu

Currently, there is no way to pause the game. This makes sense while playing online, as there would be no way to pause without disrupting other gamers. However, there's no real reason that players shouldn't be able to pause while in an offline session.

To mitigate this issue, there could be two menu setups instead: one for equipment and one for options. The options menu could actually pause the game, while players looking at items in the equipment menu would keep Diablo 2: Resurrected going. This feels like a fair compromise for Blizzard to implement in the future.

1 Remaster Diablo As An Expansion

Talking to an NPC in Diablo 2: Resurrected

This is not so much a fix as it is a wish for the future of Diablo 2: Resurrected. In future updates, it would great to see the original game added onto this as sort of a backwards expansion.

Thanks to the success of this remaster, Blizzard might release the first game on its own. As that game is a bit shorter, it would make sense to turn it into an expansion for Resurrected. An even bigger wish would be to hope for a real expansion to this game, bringing fans new material for the beloved title.

Diablo 2: Resurrected released on September 23, 2021 and is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
