The launch of Kirby and the Forgotten Land is likely a big deal for both Nintendo and HAL Laboratory. Given that the platform video game is the latest in the series and the first in the Kirby franchise developed for modern platforms like the Nintendo Switch, the future of the series seems to be riding heavily on the title's launch. As a way to entice the community to pick up the video game, HAL Laboratory recently published an interview with Nintendo to go in-depth about the new gameplay features and their hopes for more Kirby titles in the future.

For many Kirby fans, the latest title will likely be an instant purchase. However, given the character's image being more cute and adorable, older gamers may think that the video game is targeted more towards children or the younger generation. However, this perspective is something the HAL Laboratory team has been working hard to combat. With the release of the Kirby and the Forgotten Land demo, the devs are likely hoping that gamers will be able to experience the title's innovative gameplay features and decide for themselves that it definitely was made for a wider audience.

In the recent interview with Nintendo, HAL Laboratory team members including Associate Producer Kei Ninomiya, General Director Shinya Kumazaki, Director Tatsuya Kamiyama, and Level Design Director Yuki Endo shared that the new features of Kirby and the Forgotten Land were implemented to make the title enticing for gamers of all ages. When asked about plans for future Kirby titles, the team members hinted that working on the video game and being able to retain the flexibility of Kirby's abilities even in 3D form gives them hope that they can be more "wild and free" later on.

The Nintendo interview also gave more insight on the team's direction of making Kirby and the Forgotten World more challenging and engaging for players. This includes giving Kirby the powerful yet hilarious Mouthful Mode, adding a harder mode called "Wild Mode," being able to enhance Kirby's abilities through facilties in Waddle Dee Town, and even putting figure collecting in effect for completionist gamers. Being able to successfully implement these features will likely encourage the dev team to have bigger and more exciting ideas for future Kirby video games.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land will likely set the pace and expectations of the community for later games in the franchise. Hopefully the community receives the title warmly, as this will probably influence Nintendo and HAL Laboratory's decisions to add more titles to the production pipeline.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land releases for the Nintendo Switch on March 25, 2022.
