Nordic Games product development director and executive producer Reinhard Pollice indicates to a fan on Twitter that the Destroy All Humans! franchise could return.

It's been almost 10 years since the world last saw a new game in the Destroy All Humans! franchise. The series, a quirky riff on B-movie sci-fi flicks, earned decent reviews for its first few outings, but the most recent game in the series was universally panned, leading many to believe that Destroy All Humans! is dead. However, that may not necessarily be the case, as there is apparently talk at Nordic Games of reviving Destroy All Humans! and series protagonist Crypto.

Product development director and executive producer at Nordic Games, Reinhard Pollice, confirmed as much to an inquiring fan on Twitter. According to Pollice, Nordic is considering a number of different options when it comes to reviving the Destroy All Humans! franchise, and the studio hopes to get started on one of these options "soon."

Ever since Nordic Games acquired much of THQ's IP, the studio has released a number of remasters of old THQ games, perhaps as a way to test the waters for franchise revivals. For example, Nordic remastered Darksiders II last year, and the company has suggested that Darksiders III is in development as well.

Considering this, it's possible that Nordic will first remaster the original Destroy All Humans! for current-generation consoles, or maybe release an HD collection that combines all the games in the series on one disc. If that hypothetical venture is a success, then Nordic Games may be convinced to create a brand new entry in the series.

If a new game in the series is pursued, it seems likely that Nordic Games would opt for a reboot. Instead of expecting gamers to have played the previous games in the series to know what's going on, it seems like the potential consumer base for a new game would be greater if it started the franchise from scratch. It would also mean that the most recent installment, which again was critically panned, could be wiped from the franchise's continuity.

Of course, veterans of the series would likely want the game to remain true to its roots, so it would be nice to see Crypto and the antagonistic Majestic organization return for the new game. Likewise, it would probably be best if the open world gameplay that the series has used since its inception returned for the potential new installment as well.

With a new Destroy All Humans! project in the planning stages at Nordic Games, it may be a long while until fans see anything substantial on the game. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see how Nordic leverages the IP, and the other IP it acquired from THQ moving forward.

A new Destroy All Humans! game is not confirmed to be in development at this time.
