Highlights

  • The Euphony linear fusion rifle from Destiny 2's Salvation's Edge Raid offers unique traits for extra damage against Majors, Ultras, and bosses.
  • To maximize the Euphony's potential, Guardians should pair it with a Strand Subclass build in Destiny 2 to increase the damage from Threadlings and the Spindle buff.
  • While the Euphony doesn't outperform past Raid Exotics like Conditional Finality or Divinity, it can still be a powerful weapon with the right build and playstyle.

After what turned out to be the longest Raid race in the history of the Destiny franchise so far, a few daring teams of Guardians have finally bested the Salvations Edge Raid in Destiny 2. Even more so, a few lucky players among those who have managed to complete the Salvation’s Edge Raid have been lucky enough to unlock the new Exotic Raid weapon from Destiny 2’s Final Shape DLC, the Euphony linear fusion rifle.

With Raids being one of, if not, the hardest PvE activities in Destiny 2, players’ expectations for the loot from Raids are naturally higher than that of any other legendaries and Exotics in the entire game. Especially compared to the previous Exotic Raid weapons and the current meta in Destiny 2, the newly released Exotic weapon from the Salvation’s Edge Raid raises the question of just how powerful the weapon is, and what kind of impact it will have on Destiny 2’s ever-changing meta.

Destiny 2: the Euphony Exotic Raid Weapon’s Traits Explained

Exotic Weapon Trait:Description:Additional Notes:
UnwoundDealing sustained damage spawns Threadlings at the target’s location.
  • Spawns threadlings after landing two full burst-shots
  • Spawns three Threadlings, which generate three stacks of Spindle
SpindleCausing damage with Threadlings provides a stacking buff that increases Euphony’s weapon damage.
  • Max twenty-five stacks
  • One stack decays every ten seconds
  • Each stack provides a 2% damage buff (50% at max stacks)

The new Exotic Raid weapon from the Salvation’s Edge Raid, the Euphony, is a burst-fire linear fusion rifle, and it’s a Strand-Elemental primary weapon that uses special ammo. What immediately sets this weapon apart from any other Exotic or legendary weapon in Destiny 2 is that it’s currently the only primary slot linear fusion rifle that deals Strand damage. On top of this, the Euphony’s Exotic weapon traits further set it apart from any other weapon in the game.

The overall DPS of the Euphony relies on the player’s ability to spawn Threadlings to build stacks of Spindle. So, as a special-ammo Exotic, this weapon has limited use cases in Destiny 2’s PvP game modes, with the exception of Gambit. This ultimately means that other Raid Exotics like Vex Mythoclast and Conditional Finality are better suited for PvP, considering that these weapons are much more ammo-efficient and generally don't rely on any situational buffs. Consequently, the Euphony is best used against Majors, Ultras, and bosses, as opposed to common enemies or other players. This way, players can get the most of the Euphony’s Unwound and Spindle traits for extra damage.

The Euphony Exotic Raid Weapon Is Perfect for PvE Strand Builds in Destiny 2

Players can take the Euphony to the next level by pairing it with a Strand Subclass build in Destiny 2. This is because Strand Subclasses have access to buildcrafting tools for creating Threadlings and/or increasing the damage that Threadlings deal. Otherwise, without a proper Strand build, the setup required to stack the Spindle trait will be much less efficient when players primarily rely on Euphony to create its own Threadlings.

Admittedly, the Euphony has some tough competition given some of the past Exotic Raid weapons that have made a lasting impression on Destiny 2’s PvE and PvP meta. Specifically, the Conditional Finality from the Root of Nightmares Raid and the Divinity from the Garden of Salvation Raid have set a high bar for future Raid Exotics to live up to with how these weapons have remained among some of the best Exotics in Destiny 2. Although the Euphony doesn’t quite outperform the damage and utility of some of the past Raid weapons, pairing the Euphony with a Strand build and playing into the weapon's traits can still result in it being a powerful weapon.
