It was a big week for Destiny 2 players as the mysterious Season 17 was finally unveiled as the Season of the Haunted. Former Cabal emperor Calus has returned to the SOlar System with his massive ship, the Leviathan. This time, he's parked over the Moon where he's attempting to harness the power of the Darkness through the pyramid ship stationed there. Unfortunately for the Vanguard, his arrival has triggered the Nightmares to return, with specters now haunting key characters like Crow, Zavala, and Caiatl.

Alongside the new story content and activities like Nightmare Containment, the other big addition was the overhaul to solar subclasses. Taking advantage of aspects and fragments like Stasis and Void, the system gives players greater control over their build along with more grenade options than ever before. While the system is still fresh and new, it seems players are mixed on the Solar 3.0 changes as some fan favorite abilities were nerfed, changed, or outright removed. However, there are still a handful of fragments to be added, so things could change.

For now, this weekend is the first arrival of the exotic merchant Xur into Destiny 2 Season 17. Follow this guide for his most current weekend location, news on his exotic cipher quest, as well as a review of all the exotic and legendary gear he's brought for the weekend of May 27, 2022.

Where is Xur?

This weekend, players can find Xur back in the Tower Hangar.

From the default landing zone, immediately head to the left and following the path down into the Hangar. After entering the hangar, head left again past Arach Jalaal and his Dead Orbit crew and up a metal stair case. Xur is standing on a metal platform at the back of this room overlooking the mountain ranges below.

Class Armor and Exotic Cipher

Xur's role continues to offer the usual weekly quests, exotics, and legendary gear. Not only are these quests required to purchase a second fated engram, but they're necessary to acquire legacy exotic gear from the Tower kiosk. Players can earn a new cipher by completing strikes and winning crucible or gambit matches. Gain bonus points for playing with clanmates or finishing more challenging activities.

Xur continues to sell even more gear outside his usual content. In addition to his normal exotic gear, Xur now has Legendary Weapons and Armor for sale in exchange for Legendary Shards and Glimmer.

Exotic Armor

Karnstein Armlets - Warlock gauntlets

It's been a very long time since Verity's Brow has been on offer from Xur. It's an exotic helm which was at one point given to all players who finished the Warmind DLC campaign, which is now inside the Destiny Content Vault. Its exotic perk is called The Fourth Magic, which causes energy weapon kills to boost grenade energy for the player and any nearby enemies. This effect can stack up to three times.

The item itself is definitely useful, especially when paired with strong energy weapons like Riskrunner. Similar to the Hunter exotic, the roll isn't particularly great, so it's hard to recommend coming in only at 60 total.

Void Enhanced. Stat Values:

  • Mobility +22
  • Resilience +7
  • Recovery +3
  • Discipline +7
  • Intellect +2
  • Strength +21

Wormhusk Crown - Hunter helmet

Over a year later, Xur has finally brought back the Wormhusk Crown. This exotic Hunter gear used to be an easy go-to option, especially since it was handed out to players who finished the Warmind expansion campaign. Burning Souls gives a small health and shield bump to players after they dodge.

Unfortunately, the perk was deemed too powerful by Bungie, and the developer proceeded to nerf the item to modify its ability to essentially save a Hunter from death simply by dodging. While it's nowhere near the power levels it was prior to the nerf, its still a solid option for Hunters inside the Crucible for the health boost and shield bump. However, one stumbling block this week is the roll which is a palry 60, so players may have a better roll on hand.

Void Enhanced. Stat Values:

  • Mobility +17
  • Resilience +6
  • Recovery +7
  • Discipline +9
  • Intellect +11
  • Strength +10

Heart of Inmost Light - Titan chest armor

It's been a few months, but the Heart of Inmost Light is finally back in stock. It remains a very easy recommendation for Titan players this week, especially with the high stats roll this week.

An item that pairs really well with any Titan subclass, the Heart of Inmost Light comes with the intrinsic perk called Overflowing Light. When using any ability, the other two abilities are empowered. Basically, this gives them faster regeneration, melee and grenade damage, and more hit points for Barricades. A valuable trait for sure, especially for more difficult activities inside the game. This exotic item also comes with the highest stat roll this week with an incredibly high Resilience stat.

Arc Enhanced. Stat Values:

  • Mobility +4
  • Resilience +29
  • Recovery +2
  • Discipline +8
  • Intellect +9
  • Strength +12

Exotic Weapon

For those who enjoy shooting strange objects out of weapons, like the new Parasite exotic grenade launcher, then they'll want to check out The Colony. Insectoid Robot Grenades is its intrinsic perk which causes the weapon to fire grenades that are actually spider robots. Once fired, these devices chase enemy targets (even up/around walls) and explode at close range. As if that isn’t enough, when holstered, the gun refills its magazine as well.

Destiny 2 The Colony Green Skin

For now, this weapon remains a top pick for PvP players thanks to its homing rounds. Even with swords being the popular pick for the heavy slot these days, The Colony remains an easy recommendation for those who don’t yet have it. It's also a very strong Crucible weapon as it tracks targets, making it an infuriating weapon to go up against.

Additional perks:

  • Linear Compensator
  • High Velocity Rounds
  • Composite Stock

Hawkmoon and Dead Man's Tale Rolls

Since Season 16 removed the Presage and Harbinger exotic missions, Xur is also selling both Hawkmoon and Dead Man's Tale with randomized rolls. Players should visit him each weekend as he'll be carrying different rolls.

Destiny 2 Hawkmoon Hand Cannon
