The Witch Queen's expansion is arriving in Destiny 2. Faced with a new threat, Guardians will receive a host of upgrades to meet the challenge.

Landing alongside The Witch Queen expansion is a major update to Destiny 2's Void elemental power. Entitled Void 3.0, the update is the first significant change to the elemental play style in Year 5. It overhauls the skills and toolkit available to players. The update will include a new Power Cap and an arsenal of new weapons and armor for their guardians. These new weapons and armor might have something to do with the new weapon crafting materials spotted in the Destiny 2 ViDoc.

For Void Guardians, the update will be much more dramatic. The Void subclasses will be remade in line with the Stasis subclasses. The thematic and mechanics of Void gameplay have changed too, as Destiny 2 designer Kevin Yanes said, "We looked at what Void was about both thematically and mechanically. Void is about gravity." New abilities, Aspects, and Fragments will give players even greater customizability over their new Void abilities. Most importantly, this allows Void Guardians exciting ways to combat the threats found across Savathun's Throne World.

For each Void subclass, several changes are coming in Void 3.0. For Hunters, who specialize in movement and stealth, players can now utilize the Trapper Ambush Aspect, which lets Guardians dive to the ground behind a smoke cloud that makes allies invisible. For Warlocks, new Aspects include the ability to summon a Void Soul from the Rift. The Void Soul launches itself around the battlefield, dealing damage and weakening targets. Finally, for Titans, exciting new Aspects like Offensive Bulwark will grant faster grenade recharge and increased melee damage. Players will need all of these abilities and more if they are to survive the Season of the Risen.

Kevin Yanes said "all of the actions feel like they have new performances to them" and they highlighted that the changes affect more than just players build crafting. The Void 3.0 update "strengthens the overall fantasy that is at the heart of each element's play style" and the high level of customizability will let gamers develop a personalized and lore-rich Void Guardian.

It is easy to see how some Destiny 2 players will be worried about the upcoming changes. Void mains will likely be heavily committed to their skill trees and play styles, and certain players have spent hours collecting the right equipment, like getting the elusive Other Half Sword. However, the Destiny 2 development team seem confident that the update will improve gameplay dramatically. Void 3.0 arrives to coincide with the launch of The Witch Queen on February 22, 2022.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
