One persistent mystery that's been around since Forsaken's ending is the fate of Uldren Sov, who is very much alive but in a strange limbo. The former Awoken prince Uldren Sov was the main antagonist of Destiny 2's Forsaken expansion, who staged the collapse of the Prison of Elders and murdered Cayde-6. Players eventually got revenge on Uldren Sov for his evil actions, but a secret cutscene in the Dreaming City shows Uldren Sov has been revived as a guardian.

Since then, there's only been one lore drop (from an Eververse ship, no less) detailing what Uldren Sov has been up to as a newly-minted Guardian. Players in-game have never interacted with him, as it's inferred that Sov has become a recluse in the years since the events of Forsaken. Wandering among all other Guardians, helmet always on, Uldren Sov has become a quiet ally in the war against the Darkness. While many thought Uldren Sov would return last season, he still remains in the shadows of Destiny 2 for now.

The Resurrection of a Guardian

Initially, it was believed Uldren Sov died with the final boss of the Forsaken storyline after he was manipulated into summoning a Taken Chimera that was serving Riven. After Guardians defeated the Voice of Riven, it's inferred that the player and Petra Venj finally exact revenge on Uldren Sov and kill him. Uldren Sov's death marked the culmination of the Forsaken storyline, avenging the emotional death of Cayde-6 after a long and hard fought hunt of the Scorned Barons. Of course after that was "The Last Wish" raid, but many figured that was the end of Forsaken and Uldren Sov.

Eventually, players found their way into the Queen's Court and discovered a hidden cutscene trigger on one of the projection tables. Activating the cutscene leads to players discovering Uldren Sov has been revived, as a Guardian. Of course in Destiny lore, any warrior who's revived as a Guardian has amnesia. Any past memories Uldren Sov would've had prior to his resurrection are almost certainly gone, meaning the murder of Cayde-6, the destruction of the Prison of Elders, and all of the events from the first Destiny game are completely wiped. After that scene, it would be a while before fans learn what the former prince is up to after his resurrection.

Gone Into Hiding

Even when fans did learn a little about what Uldren Sov has been up to, it hadn't been much. Compared to his initial evil intentions in the past, Uldren's new life as a guardian has largely been lonely and sorrowful. Fans first got a glimpse of what Uldren Sov was up to from a lore entry that could be read after obtaining the Amenstia-S2 ship from Season of Dawn (Season 9). In it, the short entry details the life of a Guardian all by his lonesome during the Dawning celebration. The Guardian's Ghost tells him the backstory of the celebration, while he sits and sulks in his depressive state. The entry strongly infers that this unnamed Guardian living in a shipping container is almost certainly Uldren Sov.

Since Uldren's resurrection, he's been living his life as an outcast Guardian without knowing why. He's camped out somewhere in the EDZ near the Last City, living in a shipping container with his Ghost. That's all that's currently known about Uldren Sov's whereabouts, and there hasn't been any mention of the former prince since. Some theorized he'd be returning during Season of the Worthy with all the talk of "unlikely allies," but that was solely in reference to Zavala and Rasputin working together to stop the Almighty. Now Uldren Sov's fate has never been more uncertain, as to whether he'll return soon and in what capacity.

Uldren Sov's Eventual Return to Destiny 2

More than likely Uldren Sov won't be making an appearance during Season of the Arrivals. Rather, it'd make more sense for him to eventually return during Destiny 2's Year 4, Beyond Light. All of the drama with the Red Legion's Almighty temporarily overshadowed the fact that the Darkness has invaded the solar system once again. As seen in the Beyond Light trailer, there's going to be a slew of unlikely team-ups happening as everyone bands together to ward off the Darkness and prevent a second Collapse. Fans have already witnessed the long-awaited return of the Exo Stranger, and her unusual team-up with the Drifter and Eris Morn on Europa.

It wouldn't be too far-fetched to assume Uldren Sov's return will likely be the result of another team-up back on Earth. It'd be compelling to see Uldren Sov return to the tower and make amends with the other heads of the Vanguard, despite not remembering what he did. Granted the amnesia might be a cop-out, but it does present an interesting dynamic for his character and whether or not he becomes a reformed hero. For now, he's still in hiding and may be for some time. Amongst all of the preparation for the Darkness, perhaps Uldren will feel compelled to show his face to aid humanity's cause.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are in development.
