Destiny 2's The Witch Queen expansion has been hyped ever since more details were disclosed in an event last August, with fans having many questions leading into the new campaign after the finale of Season of the Lost. Bungie has been building up to the showdown with the Hive God for a long time, though Destiny 2 players expecting to kill Savathun in The Witch Queen might be disappointed if a pattern of Year 4 stands. Regardless, this is something fans will only find out by completing the expansion's new campaign that launches tomorrow.

Bungie has made it clear that completing the Legendary version of the campaign will be very rewarding, providing players with a full set of weapons and armor pieces of 1520 Power Level, as well as eight Upgrade Modules to help players infuse those into better gear. However, completing The Witch Queen's campaign on Legendary is not going to be easy, especially because of how the Power Level requirements for each mission become increasingly higher, starting at 1360. As such, with this campaign being more difficult and also different in scope, due to the Throne World's tricks and psychic detective premise, Destiny 2 players shouldn't expect to finish the whole thing on day one.

The Witch Queen's Campaign Might Not be Doable in One Sitting

Some of Destiny 2's campaigns have been short enough that one could finish them in a day or two, especially for shorter Year 1 expansions Curse of Osiris and Warmind, and this is why Bungie sifted to the seasonal model. In this case, it's likely that not only will the campaign of The Witch Queen be more complex and puzzle-oriented than in the past, but players also risk running into several walls imposed by Power Level differences.

There are many quick ways to farm items that will allow players to get up to the required Power Level for each mission of Destiny 2's new campaign, but the whole process still needs time. Furthermore, one of the allures of completing the Legendary version of the campaign is the final reward of a full 1520 Power Level set, which is 20 levels above the soft cap imposed by The Witch Queen expansion. As such, attaining gear before completing the campaign in order to increase one's Power Level even more can be a tall order on launch day.

Additionally, Bungie said that if players complete The Witch Queen campaign while sitting at a Power Level of 1480, for example, the jump in levels is more than deserved. This is a hint that the Legendary version of the new campaign is not going to be as easy to complete because of its Power Level requirements, and completing it with a Power Level lower than 1500 could be quite challenging.

If this turns out to be the case, considering the difficulty will further increase for players in fireteams of two or three Guardians, players shouldn't expect to finish The Witch Queen's Legendary campaign on day one. It's more likely that Destiny 2 fans will manage to do that at least in a couple of days, if not longer, depending on how many missions are there and how complex the puzzles are going to be. As Destiny 2's Seasons show, the game's story is at its best when completed over time rather than in one sitting, and the new expansion could be the epitome of that logic.

Destiny 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
