In Destiny 2's Ghosts of the Deep, players explore the wreckage of a vessel deep within the methane sea of Titan. At the end of the dungeon, which culminates in an epic boss fight over the remains of the Taken King, there's a chance for the brand-new Exotic Strand trace rifle to drop.

Players can further increase their Exotic drop chance by completing several Ghosts of the Deep Triumphs marked with a yellow Exotic engram in the Ghoul title section. Moreover, being in the same fireteam with someone completing the Catalyst quest, which is also inside the Ghosts of the Deep dungeon, boosts the drop chance for players who have yet to earn the trace rifle. Here's how players can unlock the Catalyst for The Navigator in Destiny 2, and what it does exactly.

How To Get The Navigator Trace Rifle Catalyst

Similar to the Heartshadow Exotic sword Catalyst from Duality, players will need to go back into the dungeon after earning The Navigator to complete a series of puzzles and challenges. There are three different statues hidden in the dungeon, into which players must bank a Vestige of Light. After that, a special Lightbearer Acolyte mini-boss will spawn with a special mechanic.

Statue 1: After Breaking The Ritual

After the first encounter, before proceeding further within, return back towards the large bridge back where players first spawn. There's a pile of fallen trees covering an entryway into an underground area, so drop down and head deep within. Watch out for a bunch of moths that will have spawned here because of the active Catalyst quest.

Continue to the end of this complex, to a room with a red light. A pile of dead ghosts can be interacted with to pick up the Vestige of Light, which will have a timer of over one minute. Players now need to reach the Hive statue nearby to bank it.

The statue is located just behind the large rocks outside next to the pile of fallen over trees. Follow the trail back towards the middle for a bit, but then turn right and jump to a high ground where the Hive statue is located. Bank the Vestige to summon Thul-Ar, Acolyte of Nokris, nearby.

Thul-Ar's health is gated, so players can only damage him until the first cut-off before he despawns. To destroy his shield, take note of the Hive symbol that hovers above him. Three Wizards will have also been summoned, each with corresponding Hive symbols. The goal is to find the Wizard with the symbol that matches the one above Thul-Ar, and kill the Wizard the spawn the Piercing Light buff. With this buff, players can kill Thul-Ar's shield. Using an Arbalest is highly recommended.

Statue 2: Underwater Caves Before Reaching The Wreckage & Ecthar

Destiny 2 Second Catalyst Statue Location-1

This is still after the first encounter, but before the second encounter against Ecthar, in the same area where the first secret chest is found. When players arrive at the large underwater caves after descending through the complex, they will have arrived at the right place. Take note of the statue where the buff needs to be banked, which is on a ledge above the enemies, just before proceeding to the next underwater part.

Go past it, kill the two tanky knights on high ground, and continue into the water. The terrain will lead downwards to another doorway into a cave. Kill the enemies there, and on the right side of the room, pick up the Vestige of Light from the pile of dead Ghosts. Now, players need to make their way back to the previous area where the statue was by jumping up. This can be a bit tricky in the water, but holding the jump button down can sometimes help players glide upwards for longer.

Return to the statue on the ledge and bank the Vestige of Light. Thul-Ar will spawn once again with his three Wizards. Repeat the same process as earlier: check the symbol above the area and find the Wizard with the matching Hive symbol. Kill it, and pick up the Piercing Light buff to kill Thul-Ar's shield and deal damage to him. He will despawn for the last time.

Statue 3: Large Jumping Puzzle Before Reaching The Final Boss

Right before the final boss encounter, and after defeating Ecthar, players will arrive at a gorgeous jumping puzzle with a bunch of Wizards and two yellow-bar Shriekers. Right at the entrance, located on the right platform by a fallen lantern, is the pile of dead Ghosts. Pick up the Vestige of Light and begin traversing the chasm.

Destiny 2 Third Catalyst Statue 2

The statue is located right in front of the massive round "window" at the very opposite end of this area, on top of a little roof. There will be a ton of enemies around, so traversing with a bunch of Shriekers, Knights, and Wizards spamming the player is quite tricky. Note that killing the enemies before grabbing the Vestige of Light is useless because they will respawn when the buff is picked up.

Bank the last Vestige of Light and Thul-Ar will spawn for the last time. The mechanic remains exactly the same as previously, though finding the right symbol might be tricky as they are sometimes hidden in little nooks and crannies of the terrain. Pick up the Piercing Light buff again and defeat Thul-Ar,which will drop the Catalyst. Anyone not with The Navigator will be able to loot a chest from where he spawned in.

What The Navigator Catalyst Does

Destiny 2 The Navigator Catalyst

Once players have the Catalyst, they will first have to upgrade it to Masterwork before applying it. It's unclear how many kills are needed to unlock the upgrade, but the estimate is around 400 to 500 kills for a typical Special ammo Exotic weapon.

The Navigator Catalyst allows players to use a special reload function (hold down R), and then fire the weapon to spawn a Grapple Tangle at the target location. On top of The Navigator already granting allies and the user Woven Mail, this is another cool utility feature that players on Strand subclasses can take advantage of.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
