Destiny 2 is soon putting an end to its 10-year Light and Darkness saga that started with the original game all the way back in 2014, and The Final Shape will tell a self-contained story that begins with the campaign and ends with the Raid. Today's showcase not only disclosed a lot of interesting details about the expansion, but it also marked the beginning of the penultimate season ahead of The Final Shape, with Destiny 2's Season of the Witch seeing a Hive-themed story featuring Xivu Arath, Immaru, and Eris Morn. As customary, players will have many new tools of destruction to collect before the final confrontation with The Witness, and pre-ordering The Final Shape will award Guardians with the peculiar Tessellation Exotic.
A lot of Destiny 2's Raids and seasons have lately introduced more and more transformative Exotic weapons and armor, with each of them dramatically changing the gameplay experience to some degree, often achieving meta status. Before Lightfall launched in Destiny 2, Bungie made it available for pre-order halfway through The Witch Queen era, and with it came a new Exotic weapon that would go on to become one of Lightfall's best at the start of Year 6. Likewise, The Final Shape's Tessellation follows right in Quicksilver Storm's footsteps.
Destiny 2: How to Get The Tessellation Exotic Fusion Rifle and What it Does
The Final Shape comes with three different editions - the Standard Edition, The Final Shape + Annual Pass, and The Final Shape Collector's Edition. Only the latter two will allow players who pre-order them to receive a copy of Tessellation in the game, which this time around won't be available from Master Rahool as per usual, but rather from the new Special Deliveries Kiosk introduced with Season of the Witch. Destiny 2 players who want to acquire Tessellation will only be able to do so by pre-purchasing the upcoming expansion.
In the future, it's likely that Tessellation will receive the same treatment as Destiny 2's Quicksilver Storm after the launch of Lightfall, and when The Final Shape comes out, every purchase of the Standard or Annual Pass Editions will grant a copy of the Exotic. As for what the weapon does, it has two signature perks, but it's currently missing an Exotic Catalyst. Considering that Quicksilver Storm got its Catalyst when Lightfall launched, it's likely that Tessellation will also receive one when The Final Shape is released on February 27 of next year.
The first signature perk of the Tessellation Exotic fusion rifle is called Property: Undecidable, and it allows the weapon to change its damage type based on the subclass equipped by the wielder, all while also restoring grenade energy when dealing final blows. This alone makes the gun very good because it allows Destiny 2 Strand builds, or even Stasis builds, to have a full weapon loadout of three matching guns for the first time ever. What makes this particularly good is that players can easily stack mods like Strand or Stasis Siphons and Weapon Surges, and they will apply to all their weapons for maximum efficiency.
The second perk for Tessellation is called Property: Irreducible, and it allows players to hold the reload button to consume their grenade charge and fire a large projectile that's slow-moving and deals massive damage in an area. This is an incredible tool for add-clearing and fighting mini-bosses or bosses alike, as the damage is high enough that it will be impactful, and the area is wide enough that it will defeat multiple red-bar or orange-bar enemies at once, feeding players grenade energy to further the loop. Overall, the Tessellation Exotic fusion rifle in Destiny 2 seems like an incredible tool to have ahead of The Final Shape, and it's likely to see some use in Season of the Witch and Season 23.
