Bungie has revealed that Destiny 2's The Final Shape DLC will release on February 27, 2024. This was revealed during a recent showcase that revealed more about the final DLC for Destiny 2’s Light and Darkness saga and beyond.

The story of Destiny has been going on since Destiny 1 released in 2014. From slaying gods to preventing the collapse of entire civilizations, the Guardians have done it all, but there is more at stake now as the Witness threatens to end the known universe by attempting to create The Final Shape in Destiny 2. The last expansion in Destiny 2’s Light and Darkness saga will serve as the ultimate conclusion to the game’s overarching story, and now Bungie has revealed when exactly players will be able to experience it.

The trailer for Destiny 2: The Final Shape revealed that the expansion will release on February 27, 2024, where the Guardians will enter the Traveler to pursue the Witness. After the events of Lightfall, the Witness managed to create a portal with the help of the Veil and entered the Traveler, beyond the Guardians’ reach. Later, During the Season of the Deep, it was revealed that the Guardians will have to take help from Savathun who they slayed in Destiny 2's The Witch Queen DLC. Now, since it is confirmed that the Guardians will also enter the Traveler in The Final Shape, Season 22 and 23 will focus on unlocking that path.

With the Lightfall expansion, Bungie changed up its storytelling where it planned to answer questions in the subsequent seasons rather than the expansion itself. However, this didn’t sit well with the fans and resulted in Destiny 2’s Lightfall DLC getting several negative reviews. Thankfully, it has promised to change this and mentioned that The Final Shape’s campaign and raid will provide a climactic conclusion to the Light and Darkness saga. Additionally, the showcase also revealed that the Guardians will face the Witness in The Final Shape’s raid and not the campaign.

While The Final Shape is still more than 6 months away, players will be able to play the Destiny 2 Season 22 titled “Season of the Witch” after reset on August 22. With this season, Bungie is looking to shake up a lot of aspects in the game, where several weapons types are being reworked and underutilized Exotics are getting a facelift to improve their usage. Additionally, Destiny 2 Season 22 is also getting an Exotic Mission Rotator that will bring back some fan-favorite Exotic missions.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
