While it has undergone many changes, Power is a measure of how strong your Guardian is in Destiny 2. The Power cap for Destiny 2 was once 300 back during the first year of the game, and it has gone up with every expansion.

While the emphasis on Power cap has loosened over the years, it is still important for players that want to engage in endgame activities like Raids and Grandmaster Nightfalls to get their Power level as high as possible. How to Reach Soft Cap (1940)

To begin with, you start at 1900 Power the moment you start playing Destiny 2 during Year Seven. Even if you were 1810 or below before the release of Destiny 2: The Final Shape, everyone is brought up to 1900 which is referred to as the Power Floor. Even a newly created Guardian starts at 1900 Power. At this point in the game, any item that drops is guaranteed to be a substantial upgrade. Whether you are playing the campaign or just simply running core playlist activities, you will fly from 1900 to 1940.

In fact, if you manage to overcome the challenges of the Final Shape campaign on Legendary difficulty, you will get a full set of 1960 Power gear when you complete Iconoclasm. Not only does this put you twenty points past the soft cap, you will also be ready to take on the challenges of Salvation's Edge, the newest raid in Destiny 2.

How to Reach Powerful Cap (1990)

Upon reaching Soft Cap, most gear that drops will be 1940 or small increments. You might come across a 1941 or 1942 while you are simply playing the game. To get better rewards, you will need to complete activities that reward powerful gear. There are three tiers of powerful rewards, and they can be obtained from various activities.

Pathfinder for both the Pale Heart and core playlists are an excellent source of powerful rewards. Completing eight daily bounties with Banshee-44 rewards you with a powerful reward as well. Though getting them is random, Prime Engrams provide a small upgrade to your Power as well. Once you reach 1990, which is the powerful cap, powerful rewards will no longer provide any increase.

How to Reach Pinnacle Cap (2000)

In order to reach 2000 Power, you will need to complete activities that drop Pinnacle rewards. Pinnacle rewards are obtained from activities like raids and dungeons. In addition to Salvation's Edge and Warlord's Ruin, which are always Pinnacle sources for the time being, there is a weekly rotating dungeon and raid that rewards a Pinnacle upon completion. You can also get Pinnacle Rewards from the rotating Exotic mission, Excision, and from the current Seasonal activity.

Even when you reach the Pinnacle cap, you can still increase your power through the Seasonal artifact. While there is no cap for the Power bonus provided by the artifact, this power does go away when the next episode begins later this year.
