In Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, developer Bungie is sending players back to the Moon, albeit with some significant changes. A dark energy has awoken something powerful within the Moon, including a few enemies that the Guardians previously vanquished.
Considering that the Moon is supposed to be a “new” location for Destiny 2, many players wondered how it would compare to the version seen in Destiny 1. And thanks to a closer look during the Inside Xbox stream during Gamescom, players now can see the full Destiny 2: Shadowkeep moon map (thanks to some stitching from Reddit).
Much of the Moon from D1 seems to be well represented in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep. The Hellmouth, Archer’s Line, and Anchor of Light areas are all returning, along with a new area called Sorrow’s Harbor. Size-size it’s hard to tell how large the Moon will be in Shadowkeep, but it appears to be on par with the likes of the Tangled Shore from D2: Forsaken.
There is also a vendor on the Moon, but who that might be is unclear. Our best guess would be that Eris Morn has set up shop to assist the Guardians but she could have a larger role to play in the narrative and therefore unable to stand by and offer bounties and new Shadowkeep gear.
The Destiny 2 Moon Map also features an icon for the new Strike, which is called the Scarlet Keep. And of course, there is the mysterious icon on the map that is tied to the new Nightmare Hunt activity. We still don’t know much about the activity but it seems to be Destiny 2: Shadowkeep’s version of Reckoning or Menagerie.
Whether or not the Moon map will full as substantial as the other Destiny 2 locations is up for debate. In recent trailers, it does appear that Bungie is trying to combine familiar locales with a new style, but it will also be nice to return to places that players know.
