Destiny 2's The Witch Queen expansion is only two weeks away, and players are excited to see what it's all about after Bungie's build-up to Savathun being one of the biggest threats to existence in the universe. Savathun's Lucent Brood is a mind-bending challenge to overcome for players, as the Hive Lightbearers will mirror Guardians in the way they cast their abilities and are resurrected by their Ghosts. Furthermore, with several new Exotics weapons and armor in Destiny 2's upcoming expansion, as well as the Void 3.0 update and the weapon crafting system, players will experience a whole new level of building their characters.

Today, Bungie released its new ViDoc on YouTube, called Light in the Darkness, which highlights different aspects of the upcoming expansion and changes being made to core mechanics, including the new Stasis-like Void subclasses. Still, the ViDoc was the perfect spotlight for Savathun's army of risen Hive Lightbearers and how disruptive they can be, which is why Destiny 2's Season 16 is focusing on suppressing them.

Destiny 2's Season of the Risen is the Season that is launching alongside The Witch Queen, and it likely starts as soon as players complete the introductory chapter of the expansion's campaign, which is set on Mars. Players will encounter their first Hive Knight using powers of the Light, and all of the Tower's main characters will unite to find a solution to this incomprehensible threat. The first to respond to the aid requests of Zavala and Ikora Rey will be Caiatl, the Cabal leader, offering her technology to mankind to try and defeat the Hive.

Season of the Chosen introduced this technology during the attempts of rogue Cabal to take out Commander Zavala, with some Psions firing Ghost-suppressing bullets. The premise of Destiny 2's Season of the Risen is that Caiatl offers that same technology to Guardians in order to help them wipe out Savathun's forces by suppressing the Hive Ghosts that allow the Lucent Brood to come back to life.

To further prove that the upcoming expansion is about old lore from Bungie's franchise, players found that Destiny 2's Witch Queen box hides a special message that's a reference to the Leviathan and the Books of Sorrow. The ancient enemy of mankind and the Light, Savathun, is now blessed with the same power that the Hive's Sword Logic defied up until now, and Season of the Risen highlights just as much.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
