Destiny 2's expansions and seasons keep on furthering its overarching stories in meaningful ways, and Bungie is known for its incredible world-building work with lore tabs and bits of dialogue hidden in side quests. There are many characters that Destiny 2 players meet over time, and while some are long gone or simply have not returned to the spotlight, several others have found their way into the current narrative. An example is Crow, a Lightbearer introduced as a major character in Season of the Hunt, back with the release of the Beyond Light expansion in November 2020.

Crow is not just any Lightbearer, though, as he is a Guardian who was resurrected from Uldren Sov's corpse, meaning that he is easily one of the most recognizable followers of the Traveler in existence. Uldren Sov is the infamous killer of Cayde-6, the creator of the Scorn, the brother of Queen Mara Sov, and the bane of the Reef. As such, his reputation was that of a murderer when he eventually died, and this passed onto Crow simply for wearing Uldren's face, even though Guardians don't have memories of their past lives. In the stories told thus far in Destiny 2, it seems that Crow is slowly but steadily coming to the conclusion that he can be the Hunters' leader following the death of Cayde, and it makes a lot of sense.

Why Season of the Haunted Makes Crow a Great Candidate for Hunter Vanguard

Ever since he was resurrected as Crow, the Guardian has encountered many fellow Lightbearers and people that ended up hating him just because of Uldren's face, not realizing that the two are very different people. Crow didn't really know what he did in his past life until Savathun showed him the memories of Uldren in Season of the Lost. Since then, Crow has been riddled with grief and shame about what Uldren did, and his story has been that of someone who wants to be better and help others.

In Season of the Haunted, Crow is tormented by the Nightmare of Uldren, who belittles him and tries to make him believe that they are deeply alike, something that Crow profoundly fears. However, during the second part of Destiny 2's Sever mission dedicated to Crow, the Guardian finally accepts that Uldren and some of his ways will always be part of him, no matter how hard he tries to shake them off. It may be a long time before Crow comes to terms with the toll of Uldren's actions, but he is starting to take responsibility for them, meaning that he is healing.

This newfound acceptance made Crow say that he would try and take on Cayde's patrols and possibly even organize the Hunters a bit, with their permission. Story-wise and in terms of character development, this makes a lot of sense since Cayde's Vanguard Dare was that the Hunter who killed him had to eventually become the leader of the Hunters at the Tower, and Crow and Uldren's story would come full circle if this happened. Destiny 2's Hunters have been without their Vanguard for over three years now, and Crow's story is that of a young Lightbearer learning from his past life's mistakes and fixing them. Thus, it may not be too long before the new Hunter Vanguard rises, maybe even before the release of the Lightfall expansion.

Destiny 2 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
