Destiny 2’s Season 23 will begin around November 28, 2023, and it will last until February 27, 2024. Not only is Season 23 going to be the final Season for Destiny 2, but it will also generally serve as the transition period for some overarching changes leading up to The Final Shape era of Destiny 2.

As the last Season before Destiny 2 transitions to Episodes, Season 23 will still bring all the expected features of a new release, like a Season pass, a few new Exotics, new playlist activities, and another chapter in the seasonal story. Aside from this, previous patterns indicate that Season 23 will also feature a new Dungeon and the return of a couple of limited-time seasonal events.

Important Events Coming Throughout Destiny 2 Season 23Destiny-2-bug-makes-perk-spawn-dawning-snowballs-gamezxc

With Season 23 serving as the final Season and the last major content update before the Final Shape expansion, it’s expected for Destiny 2 to wrap up any loose ends from the Lightfall expansion. This naturally includes the ongoing Seasonal story, but it could also mean that players may finally get to obtain the remaining unreleased weapons from the Lightfall expansion.

After how Destiny 2’s Season 22 story ended, Guardians may finally get to face Xivu Arath in Season 23. This fight has been a long time coming for Destiny 2 to deliver, and even with the recent events that have been preparing guardians for this moment, it’s still expected to be a difficult battle.

In Season 23, there will be a new Dungeon coming to Destiny 2 for players who own the Lightfall Dungeon Key. The loot pool for this upcoming Dungeon is said to introduce a new Exotic weapon among new Legendary armor and weapon sets. Not much else is known about this Dungeon ahead of Season 23 though, including when the new Dungeon will release.

Given that Season 23 will carry on throughout the end and beginning of the calendar year, this puts it on track to include Destiny 2’s Dawning and Crimson Days events. It's a little too early for any leaks concerning what these upcoming events will change from past Dawning and Crimson Days events in Destiny 2, but at the very least, it’s safe to expect new cosmetic items among the returning armor and weapons from each event.

Major Upcoming Changes Revealed for Destiny 2’s Season 23

One major quality-of-life change coming in Season 23 is the introduction of Gunsmith weapon focusing, which naturally paves the way for dedicated Gunsmith engrams. With this feature, players will soon have the choice of influencing what kinds of rewards they can earn from the Gunsmith vendor. The following foundry weapon loot pools will be available for Gunsmith focusing at the start of Season 23, with more expected to be available in future Destiny 2 updates:

  • Hakke
  • Omolon
  • Suros
  • Veist

Bungie also revealed that Destiny 2 is removing Legendary Shards as of Season 23. This is a substantial change for Destiny 2’s economy on its own, but it will be especially useful with the aforementioned Gunsmith focusing feature.

Lastly, some other extremely useful changes coming to Destiny 2 in Season 23 are the ability for players to access their vaults from Orbit, and the new fireteam finder feature. Players are already utilizing these features via the help of third-party companion apps and sites, but having them in-game is ideally going to make these features much more efficient. The new Fireteam Finder feature in particular is supposedly going to provide in-game matchmaking for every single activity in the game. Destiny 2 still has a long way to go before it ever fully incorporates the unique functions of some of the popular community resources available, but these new features coming in Season 23 are still game-changers.
