Alongside the reveal of The Final Shape, Bungie gave players a look at what awaits them inside Destiny 2's newest season including the ability to use the Hive's own dark magic against them. Season of the Deep's narrative finale set the stage for what was to come inside the next season, the most notable of which is the impending return of Savathun. Before she comes storming back into the story, though, players will still need to deal with her sister Xivu Arath as she continues her push into the Sol System.

Destiny 2's newest season, titled Season of the Witch, will once again put the Hive front and center as guardians seek out Savathun's ghost Immaru in order to resurrect her. However, Xivu Arath's forces are continuing to establish footholds across the galaxy as they seek to destroy the Last City and bring an end to Savathun's heretical forces. To combat this, Eris Morn must channel Hive magic to transform herself and imbue guardians with this dark magic in order to stop Xivu Arath and unlock more of Savathun's secrets.

It isn't the first time Destiny has seen guardians channel the Hive's dark abilities and turn them loose against the destructive force, with raids such as King's Fall and Crota's End being just two instances. Season of the Witch continues this trend, with Eris Morn serving as a pseudo-anchor for guardians to learn and channel Hive arcana over the course of the season as they battle Xivu Arath's forces. The new abilities, in turn, will be used to tithe the enemies players defeat to Eris Morn to strengthen everyone's connection to these dark powers.

Eris Morn and guardians will channel Hive magic as part of Destiny 2's new season, Season of the Witch.

The conclusion of Season of the Deep hinted Savathun would once again be at the forefront of Destiny 2 in the then-upcoming season as the Vanguard sought a way to safely enter The Witness' portal. It also saw Xivu Arath take a more direct role in the ongoing narrative, speaking directly to players during the season as she continues the battle against the Last City in place of The Witness. Given these developments, some players may not have been surprised to learn Season of the Witch would entail the use of Hive magic and venturing back into Savathun's Throne World.

It remains to be seen, though, what the potential ramifications such extensive use of Hive magic may end up having on guardians or Eris Morn by the end of the season. Player can argue that, given the stakes and threat The Witness poses, the possible price from wielding these abilities are worth paying to ensure The Last City's survival. Only time will tell, though, if playing with Hive magic will have major consequences on players or Eris, herself.

Destiny 2 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
