During The Final Shape showcase, Bungie reveals details for Destiny 2 Season 22 including a unique gameplay mechanic called the Deck of Whispers which revolves around deckbuilding. Season of the Witch places the Hive back in the spotlight, largely picking up where The Witch Queen left off as Savathun's Ghost Immaru reaches out to make a deal with the Vanguard. Resurrect Savathun, and it'll reveal the secrets of traversing through the Traveler to go after The Witness, though the only problem is that the Hive god of war Xivu Arath is still on the loose.

As fans saw during the broadcast, Eris Morn embraces her Hive roots with players helping her build power through running a pair of new seasonal activities called Savathûn’s Spire and the Altars of Summoning. While players prepare for their inevitable confrontation with Xivu Arath, there will be plenty of opportunities to get stronger through loot, gear, and a brand-new gameplay loot which takes inspiration from deckbuilding style games.

Season of the Witch introduces a new progression system called the Deck of Whispers. As Destiny 2 players progress through different activities or as rewards, they'll occasionally find unidentified cards based which can then be unveiled and activated at the Lectern of Divination. Major arcana can be drawn from a player built deck before any seasonal activity, which gives each fireteam member a buff based on the card used. If the same card is drawn by more than 1 member, the strength is increased for that encounter.

Bungie reveals the name for Destiny 2's newest season and how Hive magic plays a central part in it.

On the flip side, minor arcana cards can provide a passive bonus upgrade that become enabled for the remainder of Destiny 2's 22nd season. Alternatively, cards can also grant tangible rewards like keys, engrams, currencies, weapons, and more. Bungie's goals for this deckbuilding system is to allow players to buildcraft around their preferred style, fireteam, and class.

In addition to Season of the Witch, Destiny 2 fans received a ton of information regarding The Final Shape expansion, including new story details and The Pale Heart destination. Bungie also revealed three new supers coming to Destiny 2 for Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks, each drawing inspiration from more support style abilities, though each one certainly has enough firepower to destroy enemies of the light as well. Surprisingly, Bungie also revealed a little bit of Destiny 2's future beyond The Final Shape, moving to standalone episodes instead of the current three month seasonal cycles.

Destiny 2 is now available PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
