Assistant Game Director Joe Blackburn has been pretty open with the Destiny 2 community since he rejoined the studio last year. After teasing new content in December, much of which has indeed arrived inside of the game as promised, Blackburn also mentioned a special State of Destiny 2 address sometime in 2021. The confirmation came in a January blog post to give fans a look at the direction that Destiny 2 is heading through 2021 and beyond.

After much anticipation, the update has finally arrived from Bungie, during Season 13 as originally promised. The post itself, again written by Destiny 2 assistant game director Joe Blackburn, is quite long, giving fans plenty to dig into and digest. The post covers many hot topics from the return of the Black Armory keep Ada-1, when the Vault of Glass is finally returning, as well as the state of PvP in the game. However, Blackburn also gave a few updates to stasis and the highly anticipated crossplay feature.

After adding the ability to cross-save back in 2019, many fans have been wondering when Crossplay would follow. Bungie has now confirmed that starting in Season 15, Destiny 2 players will be able to play with friends and other players regardless of the platform they may be on. For those worried about PvP balancing, Bungie's plan is to keep consoles and PC separate as things are now, though PC players can specifically invite console friends to join them in the Crucible. With all of the hacking and cheating issues that Free to Play games on PC experience like Call of Duty: Warzone, many players would likely agree that this seems like a reasonable solution.

Also coming during season 15 will be a brand new weapon damage type. Bungie is planning to add Stasis as a weapon elemental type, finally joining the likes of solar, void, and arc. The first round of legendary and power weapons armed with stasis damage will be added to the loot pool, joining the only Stasis powered weapon available in the game, Salvation's Grip. Bungie is planning to dive more into this topic later in 2021.

For many, the biggest news is likely that the upcoming Witch Queen expansion, originally intended to launch later this year, has been pushed into 2022. The big reason for the delay is to prevent crunch and preserve the health of the team as a whole. With The Witch Queen expansion intended to be a major evolution of the game's storyline, the studio decided to take extra time to ensure that it lives up to expectations and continued to upgrade the game's foundation.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
