Destiny 2 is one of the biggest games on the market when it comes to the size of its universe, all the different activities that players can tackle, constant influx of content, and more. This often means Bungie has to be careful when planning new releases, as adding a specific feature - no matter how simple it may look - can be quite a challenging task due to all the moving parts in Destiny 2. Despite the franchise coming close to celebrating its eighth anniversary in September, some of the most-requested features from the community have yet to be added, starting with Destiny 2 not sunsetting expansions.

Bungie's August showcase included a short presentation of various additions that will come to Destiny 2 with the Lightfall expansion in February 2023. This includes a new Guardian rank system that gives players points for completing specific tasks within the game, an in-game LFG system that allows any player to find a team for Destiny 2 activities with no third-party apps, and a loadout system that makes switching between sets quick and seamless. Some of these features have been requested for years, and the fact that they will be coming with Lightfall proves Bungie is listening to the community.

Why Lightfall is a Major Step Forward For Destiny 2

As of now, looking for a team in any Destiny 2 activity requires players to use third-party apps and website, which often can be off-putting for players who don't want to or don't know where to find these tools. The current LFG system means players can create specific listings on these websites and apps, and while the experience can be smooth, it shouldn't be relegated to external devices. Having to depend on third-party tools for in-game functionalities is rarely a good design choice, and that's why Lightfall adding an LFG feature is such an important step in the right direction.

On top of that, Lightfall's Guardian ranks will likely help players get a grasp of what the community can expect from new and veteran players, as they are meant to be a representation of any Destiny 2 player's achievements. Similarly, the commendation system is great because it allows players to express their gratitude toward helpful players, while also possibly tackling the game's issues with toxicity.

Yet, one of the most important features for most players will likely be the new loadout system that Bungie is implementing with Lightfall. Swapping between loadouts is something that can only be done via apps and third-party website, much like looking for groups to play with, but this is often more complex than it looks. Having an in-game option to save a certain loadout and equip it with a single button is not only going to save a lot of time to all Destiny 2 players, it also fits perfectly with Bungie's renewed approach to build-crafting as a whole.

With the various Light 3.0 updates to existing subclasses, making one's own build has become more important in Destiny 2 because it means having variety between a handful of effective loadouts. A loadout system in Destiny 2 that streamlines the process is what the game needs for all of its activities so that players can seamlessly jump into PvE, PvP, or endgame content with ease. This is something most games that self-define as MMOs need at some point, and Destiny 2's Lightfall will finally make it a reality. Combined with the other features coming in February, this is proof that Bungie is not only listening, but it is actively working on making the game the best it can be.

Destiny 2 is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
