The Prometheus Lens has suffered a few nerfs, but still has its uses in Destiny 2. It’s a great weapon for clearing out hordes of weaker enemies, thanks to its continuous fire and damaging heat field. Given time to charge, it can cut through scores of enemies.

The Prometheus Lens Catalyst enhances the weapon’s ability to devastate groups of PVE enemies. There is a bit of work involved in obtaining the Prometheus Lens Catalyst, and upgrading it is no picnic. Here’s what players need to know about getting Prometheus Lens and using it.

What The Prometheus Lens Catalyst Does

Destiny 2 Prometheus Lens

The Prometheus Lens Catalyst provides the weapon with two boosts to its stats:

  • Stability increases by 18
  • Handling increases by 18

This is very helpful, given the weapon relies upon continuous fire. Increased Stability and Handling ensure the player can keep the damaging beam trained on enemies, and alternate between targets more effectively.

How To Find The Prometheus Lens Catalyst

Destiny 2 Nightfall Enemy

Players may randomly receive the Prometheus Lens Catalyst as a reward whenever they complete Heroic or Nightfall Strikes. There doesn’t appear to be any indication that a particular difficulty will increase the odds of getting the Prometheus Lens Catalyst, so players should choose whichever they are most comfortable with.

Unfortunately, there’s also no guaranteeing that the player will get the Prometheus Lens Catalyst specifically. There are quite a few Catalysts that drop after completing Heroic or Nightfall Strikes, like the Merciless Catalyst. Players must prepare to run through quite a few Strikes before the Prometheus Lens Catalyst will drop.

Upgrading The Prometheus Lens Catalyst

Once the player receives the catalyst, they’ll want to begin the process of upgrading it. To upgrade the Prometheus Lens Catalyst, players will need to kill 500 enemies using the Prometheus Lens. It doesn’t matter which enemies or where they’re killed, so any PVE farming spot will do.

It’s also important to keep in mind that these kills be accomplished retroactively. This means that if the player was getting kills with the Prometheus Lens prior to obtaining the Catalyst, those kills will count towards the 500. Because of this, players should use the Prometheus Lens while grinding for the Prometheus Lens Catalyst.

Tips For Getting The Prometheus Lens Catalyst

Destiny 2 Lake Of Shadows Boss Fight

Given the nature of the Prometheus Lens to take out hordes of enemies, it’s a good idea to grind Strikes that lean into this advantage. The ever-popular Lake Of Shadows Strike is a solid option for quickly completing a Strike while getting many kills.

This is even a solid option after obtaining the Prometheus Lens Catalyst to upgrade it. The player will burn through hundreds of enemies each run and can quickly rack up kills. That being said, players will want a solid weapon for taking down the boss, since the Prometheus Lens isn’t so great at spongy single target enemies. Any decent Sword will do the trick here.
