Destiny 2 developer Bungie has disabled rewards from private Crucible matches for the time being, which has led to somewhat heated discussions among players. Crucible matches are quite popular among Destiny 2 fans who enjoy earning rewards and valuable resources through PvP action. Crucible activities come in the form of various modes that let squads compete against each other to accomplish various objectives on different maps.

Bungie occasionally updates and adds new and exciting elements to its PvP component. As part of that, it released the Destiny 2 7.3.6.4 update in May, which brought several changes to the Crucible matches. The update introduced new maps where players can enjoy PvP action, whether in private or public lobbies. Bungie also made other competitive changes, including but not limited to new game modes, special ammo adjustments, and bug fixes. However, no game is ever completely bug-free, and certain players tend to exploit Destiny 2's bugs whenever they get a chance.

On June 23, Bungie announced on social media that it was disabling the rewards from private Crucible matches in Destiny 2. The post did not specify any reason behind the sudden disabling of rewards, but based on the comments, it is evident that the decision was made due to a glitch in private Crucible matches. The glitch, demonstrated by YouTuber Cheese Forever, let players farm extensive amounts of items and consumables even when they are AFK. To exploit this glitch, Destiny 2 players only needed to launch a solo private Crucible match with specific settings and repeat the process.

Bungie Disables Destiny 2's Private Crucible Match Rewards

The glitch only allowed players to farm resources, meaning it didn't affect the PvP gameplay or competitive Crucible ranks in Destiny 2. As such, some players expressed frustration over Bungie's decision, arguing that it didn't harm the game's economy or in-game store. One of them argued that exploiting this glitch only resulted in extended playtimes, so it was a win-win for both Bungie and the players, even if they were AFK. Clearly, though, Bungie felt otherwise. At the time of writing, Bungie has not provided an update on when rewards might return.

This is not the first time some players got enjoyment out of a bug in Destiny 2's PvP modes. In November 2023, Bungie turned a funny Crucible bug into a permanent game mode in Destiny 2 in response to a community request. This started as a bug in the Multiplex map, which let players ride on their hover bikes called Sparrows despite the mechanic not being intended for multiplayer. It did cause chaos on the map, with players attacking other teams with incredible speed, but at the end of the day, fans loved it and Bungie released the Sparrow Control mode.

Fans of the game are now looking forward to the future as Destiny 2 has concluded its 10-year story arc with the defeat of the Witness in the Excision mission, which was unlocked after the Salvation's Edge Raid was completed for the first time. Naturally, players will be waiting looking forward to future content and, of course, the eventual return of rewards in private Crucible matches.
