Destiny 2's next big expansion is only about a month away from now. The Witch Queen will mark the official beginning of Year 5 with plenty of major changes coming to the game. Among the changes, such as Gambit improvements and the removal of Gunsmith Materials, the expansion will release new content in the form of a campaign revolving around Savathun's Light and her Throne World. As customary, loot will still be the focus, and there are great things to be expected from the expansion's themes and what sort of gear might come to the game.

Another staple of Destiny 2's yearly expansions is that they bring massive changes to the Power Level's cap and ways to achieve it, which is usually a big jump from what it was before. The cap for Beyond Light became much higher than before, with a difference of 200 Power Levels, and The Witch Queen is about to do the same.

Bungie explained all the various tiers for Power Level that will go live alongside The Witch Queen, with the minimum Power Level becoming 1350. This is quite close to the current one, which is 1330 as of Season of the Lost. Starting with the new expansion, attaining more Power Levels will be quite easy for a while, as the gap between the Floor Level of 1350 and the next tier, which is the so-called soft cap, is 150 Power Levels. When players reach a Power Level equal to or higher than 1500, regular drops won't increase their maximum Power, and only Powerful drops from vendor challenges or other in-game objectives will count towards that.

Gunsmith materials appear to be on the way out in Destiny 2: The Witch Queen.

The Power cap is then going to be 1550, which is going to take a few weeks for all Destiny 2 players, especially considering that Bungie is capping Pinnacle rewards from Iron Banner bounties at 1350 Power Level. From then onward, however, players will only be able to increase their Power Level through Pinnacle drops, which only come in a limited amount per week, and the hard cap for Power Level across the board will be 1560. This is likely to last until the end of Season 16.

Among the various big overhauls coming to Destiny 2, Bungie is also making changes to blue drops, which has been a hot topic within the community. The fact that players won't have to worry about blue drops from playlist activities after reaching the soft cap is great news, and it will help focus on those drops that do matter for increasing one's Power Level.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
