Players of Destiny 2: Lightfall will need to acquire Polymorphic Shellcode to take part in one of the new activities added by the expansion. The Partition activity has players entering the Vex Network and taking on one of several challenges, with the specific challenge rotating from week to week.

In order to access Partition, players of Destiny 2 will need the aforementioned Polymorphic Shellcode. This limited resource is used to gain access to the Vex Network and participate in the activity and can only be acquired after players have completed the Lightfall Campaign and several of the quests that open up after the Campaign is finished.

How to Unlock the Quest to Get Polymorphic Shellcode

Destiny-2-Lightfall-Missing-Weapon-Set

Before players can get their hands on this valuable resource, players will first need to complete the Lightfall Campaign and then the following quests:

  • Welcome to the Hall of Heroes
  • Stargazer
  • Maelstrom
  • Bluejay

Of these quests, Bluejay is of particular note as it is the quest that introduces Polymorphic Shellcode and the aforementioned Partition activity, serving as a guide for players learning about the activity.

How to Get Polymorphic Shellcode

During step 2 of Bluejay, players are sent into the Vex Incursion Zone to complete a Terminal Overload activity and rewarded with a Polymorphic Shellcode for doing so. The next task, perhaps predictably, is to complete a Partition. Once this is done, the Bluejay quest is completed, and players are able to receive a new weekly bounty from Cloud Strider Nimbus, which rewards Polymorphic Shellcode when completed.

This is, at the time of writing, the only means of acquiring Polymorphic Shellcode once the Bluejay quest is completed. Depending on the available Partition, players will be able to take on one of the following three activities:

  • Partition: Backdoor

In Partition: Backdoor, players are tasked with fighting waves of Vex to collect Logic Bombs, which can be used to break open walls and reach new sections of the level before eventually facing off against a Vex Mind Boss.

  • Partition: Ordnance

In Partition: Ordnance, players must assist Sam in breaking into the Vex Network to upload a virus, requiring them to send Sam data to feed the virus via Vex decryption keys. These are dropped by enemies and must be thrown to Sam to feed them to the virus. This culminates in a battle against a Nexus Overlord, where players must periodically send Sam more data to break through its defenses.

  • Partition: Hard Reset

Partition: Hard Reset has players racing their Sparrow on increasingly difficult tracks, interspersed with combat encounters where they must defuse bombs. This ultimately ends with a boss fight against a Shadow Legion Saboteur, where players must periodically race to defuse more bombs.

Destiny 2 is available for PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
