Destiny 2 releases a brand new and unique exotic mission called Dual Destiny, though how the mission is executed in-game has not sat well with everyone. Since it's release in early June, The Final Shape expansion continues to add new content for Destiny 2 players to check out, even after the campaign has been completed. With numerous post-launch activities, repeatable missions, and gear to chase, The FInal Shape has quickly become a fan favorite expansion for the franchise.

In fact, the Salvation's Edge raid even managed to unlock additional content for the entire player base, as the Excision mission became available in Destiny 2 as the game's first ever 12 person activity. The mission served as the ultimate finale for the Light and Darkness Saga, giving players thje chance to not only take down The Witness, but get a glimpse at what's next for the franchise. Alongside this week's reset, the latest exotic mission also became available, though it seems to have caused a rift inside of the Destiny 2 community.

Destiny 2 Teases Major New Content Coming in 2025

Bungie reveals new details on the three Destiny 2 episodes coming in the months after The Final Shape and teases something new in 2025.

Dual Destiny is a unique Destiny 2 exotic mission, unlocked by first finishing three Level 3 Overthrow missions in the Pale Heart and then killing a secret Wish-Keeper Hive boss. As solving a light puzzle, the exotic mission requires that 2 players take on this mission as one will be aligned with Light and the other Darkness. Dual Destiny is a heavy puzzle mission with jumping components, matching symbols, a running timer, and more, which many have praised in how it offers light raiding mechanics in order to progress. The ultimate prize at the end are the equally unique Prismatic-inspired Exotic class items, which spawns with 2 random exotic perks and is meant to be farmed.

Destiny 2 Community Feedback Is Largely Mixed

The response to Destiny 2's exotic Dual Destiny mission hasn't been as unified as expected, especially considering how universally praised The Final Shape expansion has been since launch. While most players agree that the mission itself is interesting and unique, the issue appears to be with how the mission has been implemented. With no matchmaking option, Dual Destiny essentially forces cooperation and can't be soloed at all, which has led many to become frustrated, especially since the heavily marketed exotic class item is tied to this mission. While some would rather just play the game solo, others have indicated their daily life responsibilities or social anxieties make this mission simply a no-go. A rift has formed in the community, with those on one side praising Bungie for taking risks and releasing a really unique exotic mission, while the other side remains frustrated at how restrictive the activity is for a portion of the player base.

At the time of publication, Bungie has not responded to the controversy, so for now, players will need to find a partner through a clan or Destiny 2's Fireteam Finder feature in order to attempt Dual Destiny. As it stands, Destiny 2 players will only need to get through the mission once, as chests within the Pale Heart destination can have a chance to award the exotic class armor, making it much more farmable as a solo player, though the Dual Destiny mission can also be run numerous times to find different rolls as well.
