In a new blog post, Destiny 2 Game DIrector Joe Blackburn gives players a sneak peek into what's coming down the road including a new ritual system called Pathfinder. August is already proving to be a big month for Destiny 2 fans. Season 22 arrives in a couple of weeks alongside the highly anticipated Final Shape showcase which is not only expected to reveal new story moments, but also confirm new gameplay components like Destiny 2's third and final darkness subclass.

However, August also brought about a much-needed State of the Game blog post from Destiny 2 director Joe Blackburn. In it, Blackburn covers nearly all aspects of Destiny 2, giving updates on ritual activities, quality of life updates, stability and security insights, and even gives a sneak preview as to what Bungie has coming. While some of the content is going to be featured in a couple of weeks at The Final Shape Showcase, Blackburn shows off a few new elements including a new ritual activity feature known as Pathfinder.

Earlier in the year prior to the launch of Destiny 2: Lightfall, Bungie hinted at additional changes were coming to ritual based content which includes Vanguard Strikes, Gambit, and Crucible. The bulk of those efforts are in a new system called Pathfinder, which Bungie is using to replace some of the activity's bounties using a more rewarding tree-style system. Although Blackburn doesn't go into specific details, the in-progress image of the UI shows a branching system where players complete nodes to advance to the engram at the very end.

While the plan early in 2023 was likely to debut the tentatively named Pathfinder system sometime this year, Bungie has since decided to push it back to launch alongside The Final Shape. Blackburn's blog revealed a few additional details about it including that players will be able to access it right from the Destiny 2 Director screen, though how it ultimately replaces core ritual bounties is an idea that is still coming together.

Many Destiny 2 fans finally got the answers they were looking for with where the Crucible is heading. Even though mechanics have been changes, many fans were hoping for an infusion of new content to help make the PvP modes feel a bit fresh. Thankfully, Season 22 is bringing plenty of new Crucible content including a neon dripped Vex Network inspired map called Multiplex, a unique new game mode known as Relic, as well as a primary weapons-focused modifier called Checkmate.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
