Overthrow is a new activity added in Destiny 2 that makes perfect use of the new Pale Heart patrol zone from The Final Shape. Think of it like a map-wide public event that has plenty of mini-events tied to it. Normally, this activity takes a long time to complete, but with a few tweaks to how you approach it, you can finish Overthrow runs in record time.

If you want to get your hands on the Pale Heart weapons in Destiny 2, or if you're trying to make some post-campaign account progress, you'll need to do a lot of Overthrow runs. Here's an overview of how this mode works as well as some tips on how to finish it more quickly.

Overthrow in The Blooming in Destiny 2

Overthrow becomes available after you finish all the missions in The Final Shape. The goal here is to gain points to level up the region's Overthrow level, which is displayed on the left side of the screen. You earn points by defeating enemies, opening chests, and completing mini-events in the region. To reach the final boss in an Overthrow run, you need to get a total of 3000 points.

Reaching the required number of points can take quite a while. To make your runs fly by a little faster, do the following:

  1. Have three people do different mini-events.
  2. Open corrupted chests.
  3. Hunt powerful enemies.

You can queue for public Overthrow runs by going to the map screen in the Pale Heart and selecting the orange Overthrow logo over one of the three main regions.

The mini-events in these areas give up to 450 points each, making them the best way to level up an Overthrow zone. Most of them are straightforward and easy to complete solo, and if you have two other Guardians with you, those Overthrow levels will fly by very quickly.

While you're bouncing between events, make sure to keep an eye out for high-value targets and corrupted chests, like the Expunge chest in The Impasse. Each give around 100 points when successfully killed or completed, further speeding up your clear times.

Mini-events appear on your HUD if you're nearby or if you pull up your Ghost. Otherwise, the best way to find them is to look for floating objects like Hive spires, Taken Blights, and Pyramid devices.

Once you reach the final stage, a boss will appear in a designated arena on the map marked by your Ghost. Three different bosses can spawn per area, and they are chosen randomly. They aren't that hard to beat, but if you're hunting for the new and improved Khvostov in Destiny 2, you'll need to kill all of them at least once to collect the Motes of Light needed by the weapon.
