NIghtfall activities in Destiny 2 are pretty versatile, able to offer something to nearly every type of player. For those who want a more casual experience while trying to earn exclusive loot, players can opt for these specialized strikes on the lower difficulties. However, those who want a major challenge can tackle this activity on the Master or Grandmaster level difficulties, not only raising enemy levels, but adding challenging modifiers and the chance at Adept level loot.

Modifiers in these Nightfall strikes add another unique layer to this ritual content, often times introducing some sort of challenge for players to overcome. Depending on the difficulty level, players will likely see Champion level enemies, elemental damage that is stronger for and against, as well as modifiers that give enemies unique behaviors such as dropping mines on the ground when they're defeated. Starting in Season 16, Bungie is making some big changes to this system to help freshen up the activity.

In the latest blog update, Bungie announced plans to update Destiny 2 Nightfall strikes and trying to iron out some of the more inconsistent and frustrating modifiers. Starting at the Hero difficulty level, Bungie is removing damage and enhanced boss attack modifiers in favor of the new Acute burn. This increases player damage taken from a specific element by 50% while also boosting player damage done by 25%. Considering most Nightfalls already had a 25% damage boost mod, this is basically an increase of 25% in both directions for a particular element.

In addition, Bungie is also moving all Seasonal Strike modifiers that were introduced in season 15 to Vanguard Strikes to Nightfalls. These will be rotating on a weekly basis and impact difficulty levels from Hero to Master. Finally, Bungie is also working on better communicating which elemental shields players will be running into when the Match Game modifier is active. This will hopefully allow players to better prepared as all non-matching elemental damage has little effect.

The modifier updates are just a piece of the information given this week in regards to the Vanguard playlist. Bungie revealed that it's not only bringing back two Nightfall weapons from the first year of the game, but it is also renaming the playlist to Vanguard Ops as it now also features all four Battleground missions as well. The studio also revealed that numerous playlists are also getting reputation gain tweaks including Vanguard and Trials of Osiris. These will see faster progression, similar to how the Crucible currently increases.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
