Highlights

  • The new Light subclasses in Destiny 2's Final Shape DLC offer fresh gameplay options without overshadowing existing Prismatic subclasses.
  • Hunter's Storm's Edge super focuses on mobility and crowd control, ideal for PvP and fast-paced combat scenarios in Destiny 2, but weak against bossess.
  • Warlock's Song of Flame super emerges as a new meta choice, offering valuable team buffs and utility in Destiny 2's evolving metagame. Twilight Arsenal's lack of extra protection makes it a mid-tier option for Titans, even if it is nice to have a new ranged Super.

Alongside the new Prismatic Subclasses, Destiny 2’s Final Shape DLC also introduced one new Light Subclass super for each of the three character classes. Prior to the release of the Final Shape DLC, there were concerns that these new Light supers would all be dead on arrival due to speculation about the new Prismatic Subclass’ impact on Destiny 2’s meta. However, with each of the new Light supers being available in the new Prismatic Subclasses as well as the original Light Subclasses, this wasn't the case.

As players continue to experiment with all the new buildcrafting tools available in Destiny 2, especially the new Light supers, the Final Shape DLC is sure to leave a lasting impression on Destiny 2’s meta. While only one of the three new supers added to Destiny 2 has become the new go-to Super for its class, all of them bring some fun flavor to the game.

The Argument For and Against Destiny 2 Adding More Prismatic Abilities

Destiny 2’s new Prismatic Subclasses let players create builds that were never before possible, though there are still limitations to these builds.

Hunter’s New Storm’s Edge Super Is a Game-Changer for Mobility

Hunters arguably have some of the best support and DPS supers when it comes to the current meta for Hunter builds in Destiny 2 anymore, so any new supers for Hunters are naturally going to have some tough competition to compete with. Consequently, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the new Storm’s Edge Super has one of the lowest DPS outputs against bosses in all of Destiny 2.

Still, even with this new super’s lack of damage against endgame bosses though, Storm’s Edge arguably makes up for this with the mobility it provides. Especially when paired with the Strand Grapple from either the Strand Subclass or the Prismatic Subclass, Hunters can now zip around the map with this new super and nuke groups of common enemies or PvP players at incredible speeds.

Storm’s Edge’s Strengths

  • Provides superior mobility
  • Well-suited for PvP and crowd control
  • Allows multiple attacks while active
  • Large attack radius

Storm’s Edge Weaknesses

  • Low DPS against bosses
  • Does not currently apply Arc Subclass debuffs; pure damage only

Titan’s New Twilight Arsenal Super is Top-Tier Ad-Clear

At long last, Titans finally have another super with a ranged attack. However, this alone isn’t enough to compete with some of the current best supers for Titans. One major weakness of this new Twilight Arsenal super is that it doesn’t provide additional survivability while wielding the Void axes, and considering that players will need to utilize these Void axes to get the full damage out of this super, this is where Twilight Arsenal falls short of the current meta for Titan supers in Destiny 2. Without additional damage reduction or the ability to block while wielding the Void axes, this super isn’t always reliable for high-difficulty endgame content, but it can still be a fun option for ad-clear, mini-bosses, and even PvP.

Twilight Arsenal’s Strengths

  • Can be used for long or short ranges indifferently
  • Axe-throws Weaken enemies
  • Well-suited for PvP, crowd control, and mini-bosses

Twilight Arsenal’s Weaknesses

  • Low DPS against bosses
  • Max damage output relies on players utilizing the Void axe melee weapons properly
  • Does not provide survivability or damage resistance for players while wielding the Void axes

Warlock’s New Song of Flame Super is Shaping up to be the New Meta in Destiny 2

With the Warlock’s meta Well of Radiance super getting heavily nerfed upon the release of the Final Shape DLC, most Warlock mains will likely want to start investing in other buildcrafting options if they haven’t already. Fortunately though, while one of Warlock’s best supers got nerfed, Warlocks also gained a new super that’s already being considered the new meta.

Song of Flame's Strengths

  • Provides damage reduction, ability regeneration, and Solar and Kinetic weapon buffs to self and nearby teammates
  • Provides Barrier and Unstoppable Champion counters
  • Allows Kinetic weapons to deal Scorch damage

Song of Flame's Weaknesses

  • Weapon buff only applies to Solar and Kinetic weapons
  • Using grenades and melee abilities decreases the super’s uptime
