The Witch Queen expansion added lots of new content and features for Destiny 2 players to explore, among which weapon crafting and the Void 3.0 update arguably took the spotlight for different reasons. Weapon crafting is the first system that allows Destiny 2 players to make their own guns and carefully select all the traits and perks they should have, with the option to even enhance some perks for bonus stats or increased utility. This is particularly good for players who want to max out their builds and optimize their gameplay flow in a way that was not available before, and it calls for more diverse options.

The Void 3.0 update was similarly conceived, as it is the first rework of a Light subclass to match the current Aspects and Fragments system implemented with Beyond Light's Stasis. This opened up many possibilities for players to enjoy Void subclasses differently, something that was seemingly intended to be working with the new glaives and their corresponding seasonal mods, such as Suppressing Glaive. However, Destiny 2's recent hotfix included two major nerfs to these systems: one to a specific PvP perk, the other to Suppressing Glaive itself.

Destiny 2's Hotfix 4.0.0.5 has very short patch notes, and it was implemented earlier today before the weekly reset. However, the patch notes include a big nerf to Firmly Planted, a perk that's been specifically good on the new craftable fusion rifle Likely Suspect, which has seen a lot of PvP action in Trials of Osiris. Just like what happened with Tap the Trigger after the apparent imbalance it brought to the crucible through the god roll Main Ingredient fusion rifle that Xur sold a while back, Firmly Planted's effect on fusion rifles has been halved.

Furthermore, Suppressing Glaive can no longer chain a suppression effect on enemies through repeated melee attacks, but rather it now consumes 10% of the weapon's energy per melee strike in order to apply its effect. Destiny 2's glaives can accumulate energy by shooting projectiles, reaching full energy with 4 successful ranged hits, meaning that players would now need to land projectiles first in order to be able to use a few melee hits with Suppressing Glaive. This effectively kills a big part of the utility of the mod, and it leads to glaives being even less relevant in the current meta.

Bungie is no stranger to fixing over-performing elements of the game in various ways, and a recent example comes from Destiny 2's Blight Ranger Hunter Exotic helmet being disabled for a serious damage glitch. However, the nerf to Firmly Planted might be felt by those who crafted it on their Likely Suspect before the adjustment, and the change to Suppressing Glaive can likely lead to double Primaries in endgame loadouts where Champion mods are needed.

Destiny 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
