The newest explorable destination introduced with Destiny 2: Lightfall has been a major point of discussion for fans since it was revealed, and a discovery made by several lore enthusiasts might provide an explanation as to why Neomuna took so long for the forces of both Light and Darkness to find. The Neptunian city is where most of the events of Destiny 2's latest expansion play out, and offer the perfect environment for fans to try out their new Strand abilities.

Neomuna, a futuristic city hidden beneath the atmosphere of Neptune, is home to a sizable human population who settled there during or just before the Collapse. The people of this city appear to have been left relatively unscathed by the centuries of conflict in the Solar System by avoiding it entirely, being protected by the cybernetically-enhanced superhumans known as the Cloud Striders instead of Lightbearing Guardians. This air of safety wouldn't last forever though, with the war between Light and Darkness recently reaching Neomuna after Calus' Shadow Legion arrived to track down the mysterious object known only as "The Veil." This has led the Guardians to discovering the city too, and players can now take to the city streets to help defend them alongside the Cloud Striders.

Neptune's Magnetic Fields May Have Disguised Neomuna in Destiny 2

With widespread conflict being waged throughout the Solar System for countless years however, it's only natural that many fans have wondered exactly how this human settlement has remained hidden to all eyes for so long. As unlikely as the case may seem, some fans believe that they've solved the mystery based on some in-game dialogue that can be encountered while patrolling Neomuna. A fan on Reddit named GreenJay54 made a post summarizing this information, quoting a line from Quinn Laghari that states "Neptune's magnetic field is erratic, which is great for hiding a city inside." This suggests that Neomuna is actually concealed more by its natural environment than other factors such as the presence of The Veil.

Whatever the case, Neomuna is a fantastic and colorful city that provides another truly unique destination in the world of Destiny 2. The city also represents the area where Guardians can first get their hands on Strand, the powerful new Darkness subclass introduced with Destiny 2: Lightfall that allows players to wield the unseen threads that bind the universe in order to destroy their enemies in entirely new ways. On top of its potential in combat, Strand also arms players with the means for awesome new movement options, such as the Grapple ability that lets them swing above the city streets.

Despite the plethora of fantastic new content introduced with the latest expansion, Destiny 2: Lightfall has received an overwhelmingly negative response from many critiques and fans alike, largely due to the consensus of a disappointing overall narrative. Bungie have taken note of this feedback, assuring fans in their latest TWAB post that there's a lot more to come over the course of the next few seasons.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
